Moving to WA

Hey all... I'm gonna be moving out to the Tacoma area in less than a year and was just curious how the scene is out there? Like what clubs are good, how expensive are big events usually, can you score cheap flights to San Fran fairly regularly, etc? I'm real into the prog trance sound like PvD. Thanks, can't wait to party on the west coast for a while now.

well, here's a start for yah:

http://www.nwtekno.org

if youre from NY, the bigger events are cheaper and can go all night... there really isnt any set 21+ club like The Roxy or anything, clubs are sporadic... However, The Last Supper Club might suffice to your liking... you can check online about the flight question, but i think its around $75-100 roundtrip... the faster progressive-techno type sound you like from PVD isnt too noticeable around here, but we get it when we can... lately, jungle & DnB has been the sound of Seattle, and of course funky house will always be popular... youre gonna absolutely love the "aroma of Tacoma"

oh, btw, the production group im with, we throw somewhat popular parties

am i sensing some sarcasm about tacoma or are you serious?

I used to live in Washington for a while and its more of a grunge scene. But maybe things have changed since then.

that was more of a 90s phenomenon, but you could argue that grunge has had an effect for the growing popularity of Jungle & DnB in seattle...

there's some sarcasm, but yeah, sorry to say there are a lot of paper mill factories in tacoma, which produce just a great smell, around the Tacoma Dome area... dont forget, Donald Glaude is from there...

tacoma area you say???

that could be a lot of places in the "south end" that are tacoma area, which would mean that i myself lived in the "tacoma area" for 7 years before moving to seattle. i dont like the area, or tacoma. tons of suburbia, and nothing much going on. a few clubs in tacoma, but not my type....

as for seattle, yeah d'n'b is taking over

this city's 'scene' really blows. i think i've had more fun at any other place i've visited in the world than in seattle.

as for the people around here, some of my friends and I, who originally come from 'friendlier' places seem to both conclude people here are NOT as friendly as they are where we all come from. actually, to all the places i've travelled to, people here in seattle area seem to be the least friendly. dont know how big of a change you will experience, moving from NY...

I imagine I'll be taking a few trips to San Fran to catch some events. Hopefully there is just some place I will be able to call my 2nd home on the weekends. Does Vancouver ever get any good shows?

Seriously dude, tacoma fucking sucks. Last time I was down there, I saw a little kid getting his bike jacked.....it was some crazy ass shit man.

Just be warned that in Tacoma you're looking at a 25 - 45 min drive to Seattle depending on traffic and the horsepower of your vehicle

All in all Seattle has a really random assortment of stuff going on. My experience is that people who have lived here for a long time are really sick of it but newcomers love it. Not just the vibe, but the scenary, feel etc. that Seattle/Washington offer.

For clubs/lounges/bars, you have Last Supper Club, Showbox (Sometimes), Medusa, Noiselab, Mr. Lucky, Frontier Room, Toi, Tia Lous, Bada Lounge, Barca and many more. There is something for everyone, you're gonna have to do some searching though. There are tons of cool little bars too and lots of underground parties. D n B seems big now, along with breaks but we usually get a couple 'big' headliners every year.

If you aren't picky about times etc, you can usually get good rates to San Fran, LA, San Diego, Phoenix, & Vegas.

Anyway, best of luck with the move and let us know what you think!

Tacoma is ok, lots of casinos down there but i don't think there is much of a nightlife.
I've never been compelled to join the scene in seattle, i'd probly only go to a event if a big name dj was playing. Plus all my friends hate trance
