Touching story I want to share
Disclaimer: This is not a religious thread, despite of the beginning. It's mainly about the human mind.
----
Today, I was in front of a building waiting for my mother to pick me up. Suddenly, an old lady came to me and said:
: have you got the time?
: 5 o'clock.
: What's your religion?
: I'm sorry?
: I'm looking for a religion... what's yours?
: I find Buddhism interesting, but...
: Buddhism? Is Buddah your God?
: No, bec...
: Don't you believe in God? Who would've created all this stuff then?
: I don'...
: My whole family is baptist, but I don't like them. I wanna be a catholic.
: Be a catho...
: However, my family doesn't let me go to any other church, they say I'm crazy.
: Is that so?
: Yes... I'm annoyed because I'm forty years old and they don't let me have my own religion... they say I'm crazy.
: I see, bu...
: They say I do drugs when they're not with me. But I don't. I used to... actually I did drugs for 21 years, but today I don't... do you smoke?
: No, I don't.
: Do you use drugs?
: Does drinkind alcohol once a month count?
: Once a month? Heh... don't you miss being high?
: Not act...
: I started to smoke when I was 14 years old... at 15 I tried to commit suicide... I took 70 pills and I ended up in the intensive care. God saved me... then I met my husband... I was 15 and so did he. We would smoke weed together and do some other stuff like cocaine... have you ever tried cocaine?
: No.
: You should... drugs are for young people... my husband was old when he od'd.
: Sorry to hear that.
: Don't be, that bastard left me.
: I see.
: You know, today I read in the bible that God owns all flesh. Did you know that? Everything belongs to him!
: kay...
: When you do drugs you go anywhere in the world to take them... I used to go to a neighbour city on foot just to get some. The dealers were pretty ugly... and one day I went to the scrubland with some mates... one of them wanted to f*** me, so I ran as fast as I could. I looked up to the sky and asked got to forgive me and lead me the way. Then, a path appeared in front of my eyes and I found my way home.
: It seems you're religious, yet you've got no religion?
: I wanted to be a nun, but my family wouldn't let me.
: Talk to a priest, he would give you good counseling... that's quite wh....
: My family would get me and send me to a mental hospital... my sister is evil... I'm gonna do some macumba to her (macumba is some sort of Brazilian voodoo)
: Don't. It's gon...
: Yes, I guess you're right. But that son of a b***** deserves to die... either she dies or I'll kill myself.
: Don't do it, I recko....
: Death is the only way out. Everybody thinks I'm crazy... but I'm not. When I was younger I threw stones in a church and I broke all the windows, because I hate those bloody baptists and they hate me.
: You're not maki....
: Now my older son is in university... and my younger son is hospital because of drugs as well... and my sister doesn't let me talk to people because she thinks I'm looking for drug dealers. Are you a drug dealer? Never mind, I don't want anything today. When I was young I wanted lots of things... I want to work, but I'm retired, I can't work anymore... just because I've done drugs for 21 years they think I'm crazy, do you believe it? I'm not crazy (...)
: Have you got the time?
: Five thirty
: Oh my God, my sister is coming... she can't see you... could I ask you a favour... pray for me, please.
*lady goes away*
--------
This really touched me and I felt like telling it... I'm not gonna give any point of view here, because I don't want to judge her. It doesn't matter if she was telling the truth or if she made everything up...
... think about what you're doing in your life and about what you've done so far as well. Then compare your life with hers. We've got enough sad stories in this world, don't let your life become another one.

Although the point of the story is important, I coudn't help but laugh as Maaz is unable to say anything at all!

Haha she sounded crazy to me, you should have just ignored her and walked away.

sad, because it's obvious to see the toll the drugs had taken on her. i understand that all the anti-drug stories are becoming a little bit too cliched, but at least this one's real.

Not really... she just looked like an ordinary poor woman...

hehe, I actually felt like doing it, but she seemed so sad and screwed up, I just couldn't walk away like this... if rude people may hurt 'normal' people, how would such thing affect someone like her?

I reckon drugs may damage the brain and stuff, but I wonder if that was the only problem. I used to hang out with a former junkie (the girl had done every drug you can imagine) and she wasn't weird at all... in fact, she was one of the sweetest girls I've ever met in my whole life. Therefore, I wonder if this old lady I've met wasn't already a bit disturbed before doing drugs. She had tried to kill herself before doing drugs, you see?

I think you did a nice thing! listening to another persons lifestory can be very interesting, and i would think that it makes them feel better to...

Tell me about it... my brother was beside me (ignoring her existence as he was affraid of her
) and he told my mother about it. Needless to say, she's against drugs and it just supported her position (plus, she's a psychologist who works with former addicts, so she deals only with the sad stuff).

I had just arrived home when I typed it, so it was fresh in my mind. Now, if you asked me to re-type it, I wouldn't be able to

Maybe... as I said, I don't want to judge her, but it wouldn't be a surprise for me.

She sounds like a really interesting lady. Btw, do you know her name and address? I'd love to stop by and have a chat with her.
Sincerely,

Well lots of people use drugs to a good time. Some people have emotional problems and then abuse drugs (do them a lot and to escape their problems). When drug abuse happens people can become what the lady in the store is like. Problems escalate and they end up spending a lot of money on drugs and their life becomes about getting high and they lose everything.
