Went Over My DSL Download Maximum By 60.7 GIGS

$320 extra charge on my DSL this month, fuck. They didn't even say that it had limits when I signed up and they only started charging me for the last 30 days. This is bullshit, can they really just introduce limits and not tell anyone about it? I was never e-mailed or anything about it, the only time I'm e-mailed is when it's about billing information

Ye 2 GIGS a day is quite a workload eh lol. I'd switch to Rogers but apparantly they are going to implement limits as they've been saying for months, plus DSL always stays the same speed pretty much. But can this company actually do this? I am for sure going to disconnect my service so can I simply say you didn't tell me, go screw yourselves, I'm switching companies?

Posted by LKD on Feb-27-2003 20:48:

oh and btw..bell has it stated now in their ads and sign up contracts or watever that there IS a 5 GB cap..look closely..it should be stated...tahts why all us TAs are on rogers (well most of us)

Access Vantage DSL. Kill them, kill them all. Not too many people upload off of me, only on Direct Connect when I'm on a movie HUB and I only started doing that a few days ago. It's from me running Kazaa, DC and iMesh 24/7 .

The reason I'm mad is that I've been downloading the same amount every month and they send me a bill now and only for this month meaning they must have just implemented them, so don't they have to inform me or I can say fuck off?

ok now u have a reason....if they suddenly charge u without a warnign, then u can even take them to court

but go thru all ur mail from them etc and see if anything (even in fine print) is mentioned about the cap

Oh I will definately do that. Problem is that my parents aren't exactly aware of the charges just yet or I wouldn't have arms to type with right now. I'm not sure if I should mention it just yet or anything, seeing as my birthday is in 2 weeks, payment due March 8 and I know they'll find out soon but I they might just be a little mad that in one month I spent enough money to pay for my DSL for like 8 months.

well rationalize with them saying that they never said that there would be a cap and that u want to bring this up with the company too blahblah..ur folks will surely back u up agaisnt the company

wow, this is twice as bad as my rogers cell phone bill... god, that's a lot of money for internet!

as lkd said, make sure you check the fine print. and when you do call customer service to complain, be nice. they might give you a break. worked for me

I just really hope there wasn't any fine print when I signed up like something saying that limits were going to be implemented on a certain date. If not then they had better expect an asswhoopin' since my parents don't take shit from anyone, it'll be a think of beauty and I'll find a better DSL company, any suggestions?

Tru, I have cable here at my dads and DSL at my moms. Since I'm more constantly at my dads I just leave my computer at my moms on 24/7 and it's downloading away. My XP reconnects whenever I get disconnected which isn't very often. Speed is constant and it's nice becuase I can download at two houses .

when i used to have sympatico i got 100+ GB over (this is when the policy first started). i just told them that i didnt recieve the email telling me that there would be a bandwith cap implemented (even tho i did) and that i refused to pay it. i then immidiatley cancelled my acct.

doesnt it suck having DSL with a bandwith cap ?

Posted by King_Mack on Feb-27-2003 22:33:

Rasta

I am on primus right now..their dsl service is unrestricted(no capping..no limit).

Intro offer for 4 months...24.97 and like 42 bucks afterwards. No setup fee.

Posted by Crazy Serb on Feb-27-2003 23:34:

Hahaha, man, there's an easy solution to this...

You call them up, tell them that you never received any notices about bandwidth caps, and that you refuse to pay that amount... if they start bullshiting you about how you have to pay that, this and that, you tell them to fuck off, cancel your account, and forget about the bill whatsoever! What are they gonna do, pass that on to the collection agency or some shit? Bah... And who says that you have to pay that bill anyway?! I know I will disconnect from Rogers once they introduce the caps and I get a bill of about $300... without paying the bill too!

Trust me, for $320 I'd fight them in court, not just over the phone...

Posted by Kid Lax on Feb-28-2003 00:29:

im pretty sure somewhere in the fineprint, it mentions something about the service being able to change without notice

im notsure how you never knew about this cap though
its been there for a couple months
i would've thought someone who's downloading/uploading 65+gigs a month would be the first to know this

They claimed they sent me an e-mail about it but they didn't so I don't even have to lie. They offered to cut the bill in half but I download too much. Maybe Primus is the answer, or something faster then DSL. They're just gonna take it off the credit card like they do for normal billing most likely.

KarateKid

yepps .. Rogers to have caps this summer , it's in their FAQ on their site. and yepps Primus is prolly one of the best DSL companies rite now with no caps ..

and !@#$%%^& .. i live in a DSL blackzone, so i can't even switch off cable to DSL since there's no central office nearby for DSL ..

Posted by The Highroller on Feb-28-2003 02:47:

Primus isnt the only one, there are others if you look REALLY hard. the problem is, these places have HORRIBLE customer service. but once you actually get it.. its worth it.

suggestion: dont EVERYONE sign up for Primus cause if you do, you will rape their bandwith and they will have to put a bandwith cap too.

Downloading too much porn/free music, are we?

...and I believe they did inform their customers. Are you with Bell? Since they don't send you a monthly invoice (like Rogers Cable does, for example.) they probably informed you via your online invoice - which, if you're like me, you dont check, then it's no wonder you're surprised.
