Carts & Stylii

Just wondered what everyones thoughts on on the range of carts and stylii thats out atm.

Ive used mostly Stanton 500s on my decks in the house because the replacement stylus was the cheapest.

A one place I played they used ortofons,m which really sounded mint but i wasnt sure about using them (to used to my crappy stantons)

So, discuss..... (this is the DJ booth init)

I use the Shure Whitelabel. It is a great needle and I have no complaints, except for the pricetag that goes along with it!

I use the Ortofon Concord w/ yellow tips when recording / playing in a club.. or the Ortofon OM on Technics headshells w/ black tips when just fookin' around. I used to have stanton trackmasters, but hated them. The sure whitelables werent out when i picked my needles a long tyme ago.

My decks came with Stanton 520's (the Craze signature ones) preinstalled. I can't find replacement needles for em anywhere tho. Does anyone know if i can use the 500's replacement needles with the 520?

Cool

Ortofon Concordes with Nightclub S/E tips are pretty much standard in every club in the UK. I have the Nightlclub E tips on atm and they are ace, only problem with Concordes if you have techs is that it is often hard to put enough weight on, for example the most weight I can put on is 2.25g because that is how far the weight will go round lol. I can deal with it, skipping is slight, the only backfire is that it sometimes doesn't stay in records with shallow grooves all the way round, eg. the recent records on Lost Language... Ace carts tho

i have an awful Stanton cart, the 520 SK

i hear that Ortofons kick ass, but as far as I know, SHURE carts are top of the line, and they have a wide range available from the mid-range price tags to the wicked expensive varieties. i think the stanton trackmasters and discmasters are pretty good too...if i'm not mistaken, replacement styli for these higher-end carts cost between $50 and $150 USD...

hope this helps

Fuck yeah, SHURE WHITELABELS are the bomb!!! I am waiting for my 2nd pair of them to come in. Friend of mine literally begged me on his knees to sell him my first pair, and he used to use Ortofones Pro DJ S conscordes and yes they suck compared to Shure Whitelabels. And also, yes Ortofones don't hold records well and it sucks 'cause you can't put enough weight on them w/o ruining them. My Ortofones are soon to become my extreme emergency backups, 'cause I also ordered 4 pack replacement stylus for whitelabels and price tag is only like 24.00 each or if you want to buy just one they are 29.00 which beats paying 39.00 for ortofone's replacements. Not only that, but I doubt that I'll be needing to replace the styli any time soon, 'cause of their great design, when I had my first pair, I backed off the counter weight to just enough that the tone arm doesn't bounce back, everything else was taken care of by whitelabels perfectly balanced intergraded cartridge design. I couldn't believe how well they held the records even when scratching once in a while....

The best Carts Ive used are the Ortophon Concorde Nightclub edition. They are slimline and solid on the deck. Those stanton one look like they come with wings... pointlessly in the way...
