Pop...

LoL, j/k. Um, I'm gonna say mainly electronic breaks? *shrugs* His style varies really so you can't put an exact name on it.

He has done some trance work and he spins trance so he is trance enough in my book heh, his biggest hits are trance tunes. But he goes out on tangents just like Oakey.

It varies on a song by song basis. Off the top of my head, BT has done:

Trance - Flaming June
Trance - Godspeed
Breaks - Smartbomb
Progressive House - Beta (3AM Mix)
Goa/Acid Trance? - (the really old stuff he did under other names)
Really good hiphop/pop - The Hip Hop Phenomenon
Really good hiphop/pop - Madskillz Mic Chekka
Weird guitar stuff - Ride
Breaks - Love, Grease and Peace

Electronica/Dance?

Posted by quddha on Mar-04-2003 03:31:

Electronic... he doesn't have a formula for all his songs, so u can't really pigeon-hole him. He's worked with pvd, the roots, and nsync.

I have is Rare and Remixed CD and the sleeve notes refer to his music as "Epic-House." He does use a lot of trance, breaks, and house sounds in much of his productions...they vary alot

Posted by tranceDJ on Mar-04-2003 03:53:

He has all different styles. Some of the stuff he does nowadays could be considered pop but then again he wants to make electronica and dance mainstream...I don't know if this is really good but he seems to think so. He has a new album coming out sometime this year, although it might be a bit commercial, i'm still sure it will have some good songs.

hmm... BT's music classification: god..

heh...

Seriously, of all trance producers, BT is the one who probably has most musical and composing talent... I admire that guy, even though some tunes by him are.. "blehish"... Can't wait for his 4th album...

Posted by tranceman78 on Mar-04-2003 04:00:

BT = BT. He just has his own style.

Posted by torontotrance on Mar-04-2003 04:04:

*shudder* - can't believe you're actually comparing what the two of them do.

BT actually knows what he is doing as a producer and is considered by many people (including Paul van Dyk and I have that on record) as being one of the top producers in dance (broadly speaking here).

He aims to defy genres and crosses over them frequently.

He's a jack of all trades, or in this case genres

He does a little bit of everything. As far as I know, he is most known for his breaks, such as "Never Gonna Come Back Down" and "Smartbomb". His trance is what does it for me, with such tunes as Flaming June and Namastai (with Paul van Dyk), and his wonderful atmospheric trancers that take your mind far away, such as "Embracing the Sunshine", "Nocturnal Transmission", and "Sunblind".

Even thought I don't like ALL of BT's music, there is no doubt that the quality of production in al of his tunes are top notch.

Note: BT and Sasha's experiments with melodic and euphoric house are, what most people believe, the beginnings of trance music. BT does not like to think of any of his music as trance, do to the cheese/formulaic tag that often times goes with it. He also refers to himself as a compser, not merely a producer.

Yeah, that's definitely important. I heard that BT also like up in maryland (Near DC where I live), and that he used to chill with Deep Dish before any of them became popular.
