Porn

I found this article while surfin around, and thought it might be a worthy topic of discussion. The article is here:

This is actually a very interesting topic, one i have wrestled with in my own mind a few times.

Is it wrong to look at porn or not? a tough question.

I checked out the reader responses, both male and female, and they ran the gamut from the puritan amish view (from a guy no less):

Personally, i think it should be determined by INTENT, and not by CONTENT. if your intent is to simply get a little smile on your face looking at a naked picture of a girl, then it shouldn't be considered wrong. However, if you become obsessed, addicted, or more excited about the porn than you are about your girlfriend, then something is defintely wrong.

To further complicate the issue, there are of course numerous "shades of gray" in the situation. reading an erotic story is one thing, looking at a naked picture is another, video is another, and becoming a full fledged member of a porn site is another. I suppose worse would be developing an unhealthy obsession with a particular person (for example my friends affinity for jenna jamieson). And of all the things you could do, i suppose the worst of all would be to develop an online pornographic relationship with someone you actually KNOW in real life, using a webcam.

now, somewhere in these shades of gray i think lies the line where you should not cross without considering yourself a cheater. but where is that line?

I choose to stay away from it as much as possible, because my relationship with my girlfriend is the most important thing in the world to me.

I'm not really into porn but anyone who thinks they have any business telling someone else what they ought to be looking at needs to be eviscerated for the good of humanity.

if your significant other is intimidated by the fact that the other looks at porn then they have many issues with their own self esteem, self confidence and with the relationship itself.

#1 how is it the right thing to do?

#2 it fucks up peoples marriages and sex lives and relationships with fucked up ideas how things are gonna be... most chickes DONT want 9 penises in their various orifices... porn isnt good, if you think it is...you are justifying getting off, there isnt any good too it at all. rationalize and justify it however you want lol. fuckin great. i guess in the end its just sad. cuz the real thing isnt there you know?

now, who would ever look at porn when they have a gf/bf? i mean, really. if you are in a relationship and you have sex regularly, then, IMHO, there's something wrong with you if you look at porn alone (looking at pron together with yer gf/bf doesn't count).

Personally I belive Porn is getting easier to get hold of , like 30 years ago the internet was expensive and slow and getting hold of HC Porn was tricky these days you can see anything you want when you want , you could type in Google Dog Sex and prob a 200000 hits would come out , like ive seen everything there is possbile to see, and it does stay in your mind, overall , porn will always exist , and women are just as bad as men for looking at it..........

This just reminds me of why I am an aetheist and why I fucking hate religion.

Looking is not cheating FFS. You are simply appreciating something that is aesthetically pleasing. You cross the line if you TOUCH. Its as simple as that.

Let me also add Marx to this bit - who stated that religion was simply not necessary for society.
If you look at Calvinism you will see why - this theory states that only the christian way is the correct way for development and living. This type of thinking and indeed most religious thinking is damaging and is 99% of the time a prelude to conflict.

Porn is great, there is NOTHING wrong with it, and everybody should have the right to look at it, because we are human beings with biological needs and unfortunately not everyone can satisfy them.

People seem to think that Christians (you were quoting Bible so i assume that is who you are referencing) are supposed to be these "its all groovy man do what you are going to do" people. The Bible is hardcore. It says do not judge PEOPLE. Like Hitler and Himmler, and Chairman mao and tamerlain (sp?). The idea is how can you say you would be different if you were raised with those ideals and then given that power? You cant, so dont judge. You can however say that the ACTION is wrong. Like just about anything in life, everything in moderation. You can drink and drink until your liver bleeds out, or smoke until you have cancer, or eat pies all day until your obese. I think theres a clear line between healthy biological urges and pure obsession.

Anyways, whats so bad about porn? Lets face it, every creature on earth is installed with a natural biological desire to reproduce. Theres nothing wrong with satisfying those urges in a harmless way, and unfortunately, not everyone has a girl/guy to help them out . Repressing them all the time isnt healthy, and people will end up doing drastic things to get rid of sexual aggression. Look in european countries like sweeden or switzerland where things like porn and sex arent strict taboo; their rates of rape and unwanted pregnancies are far lower than here in the U.S. And I hate to use this as an example, but look at the accusations of rape against the catholic priests. Or the teenaged mormon convert who comitted suicide because he couldnt resist the urge to masturbate. Its obvious that repressed sexuality is harmful. Btw, orgasams lower your blood pressure, reduce stress, and put chemicals into your blood that make you feel generally better all day.

So I dont see whats so bad about it. No one forces girls in porn vids to do the deed (legal ones anyways). Like I said, theres a difference between looking at some porn and being obsessed, filling your HD's to the max with it, and subscribing to dozens of pornsites annualy
