I need help with a Dj Gig.
Hey, i have to dj to a gig for a school function.
Now because there is a ratio of 15 girls to 1 guy, i need some pumping beats that isnt trance. But something that everyone can really groove to. Can i have some good song titles please?
What kind of school is it...what city do you live in...what kind of music is popular in the area you live in...?
Other than that, you can't go wrong with house. Just go to your record shop and pick up a few funky house records.
yes, funky house always gets girls going
any house actually... deep, prog, funky...
^^^ true... funky house or top 40...
blah
VOCALS <-- chicks LOVE vocals!!!!
In my experience, guys are the ones who like the harder, bouncier stuff. Girls tend to like more mellow, trancier type.
And where are you that the ratio is 15 girls or every guy, and how can I get there?
rofl, Its in Vancouver, and Rap/ Hip hop is the thing. Like anything on much music, and all that crap. I am so psyched for it though, my meat is going to raw by the end
its actually for a gymnastic provincial party. YAY FLEXIBLE GIRLS!
Gymnastic party eh? Hmmmmmmmmz...I agree with what everyone else has been saying. Drop some house, vocal house, prog house, tech house and then see how they react to each style...If they love the prog house, then go into more prog...if they love the melodic stuff, drop a trance track or so, see how they take it.
High school kids?
More likely than not, most of them won't know trance or house or any real for of electronica (except for maybe DJ Sammy or sandstorm).
Your gonna be needing to play lots of hip "pop" (hip hop) and top 40 pop stuff.
I used to DJ highschool dances and parties all the time.
it sucks ass.
everyone wants to only hear songs they've heard before. all pop and such.
see if you can find remixes of hip hop songs that are more housy to spin
i dj highschool dances all the time
play a lot of top 40
then you can start to drop in some dancier tunes
start off with something commercial (cheese)
than you can drop in a few good tracks
make sure you follow up your dance sets with a popular top 40 track to get all the sheep back on the dancefloor

these songs should be able to get you in and out of your dj sets and cross you between pop & what you wanna play...
Nelly - Dilema (Jason Nevins Remix)
Coldplay - Clocks (pick whatever vocal remix you like best)
Tom Bones - Feelin' Kinda Groovy
Missy Elliot vs X-press - Get your freak on
Missy Elliot - 4 my people <-- i know basement jaxx do a remix of this
J. Timberlake - Cry me a river (pick your fav. dance remix)
These you should have no problem playing...
Auora - Ordinary World
Circ - Destroy She Said
Ferry Corsten - Punk
ok, my mind went numb and i cant think of anymore... but check the billboard dance music charts for suggestions..

how about a bit of ade fenton, or perhaps some liebing stuff.
Only joking. seriously tho' you should play trance that is very melodic. Then spike the punch with a few hundred ecstacy and they should be dancing away all night long.

Jungle remixes of pop songs ... totally the way to go ...
:-D
Being completely sarcastic, btw. Well, heck, who knows! Maybe DnB and/or Jungle would go over. Lord knows those beats are schweet!
I have to agree with the others, though. HS Kids like the cheese. What about DJ Encore ft Angelina? Lot's of catchy choons, and some are pretty well known. Cheese wins in those situations unfortunately.
And once you get them going (cuz I know you will, I have confidence ... heh, someone has to be optimistic!), then a good Aphrodite track might fly. I am just brainstorming here ...
