where to even begin? wanna learn to DJ
Hi all,
I want to get into DJing, I just got a cracked full version of Traktor, but dont even know where to begin. I'm sure it easier for those of you who actually have real turntable so you know what all the functions are. Is there a website or book I should read up on to get a better feel for these controls? To learn about gain, loops, etc.?
Thanks alot in advance.

My first piece of advice is that you start off legit and actually PURCHASE your software. If you want to start with mixing mp3s, then that is cool, or you can save up about $500 and buy a beginner's setup. You'll first have to deside if you want to spin cds or vinyl first--or both if you have the money. Rule of thumb is that cheap turntables (TTs) suck because they are belt driven and are inaccurate in keeping their pitch. Stay away from these because it will make learning to beatmatch very difficult. Secondly, cheap cd players, while they suck and don't have very many features and you can't use them under loud environments, are better than cheap TTs, as far as holding pitch is concerned. Either way, unless you're loaded, don't go off and buy the finest eq until you know if you want to stick with it for several years. If you can last for 6-12 months on cheaper eq while you are still learning, then you can upgrade later. You can always sell you old eq on ebay or something like a dj-hand-me-down.
Go from there and then keep reading these forums to learn more about what you think that you know that you really don't
thanks alot for the info guys, much appreciated
