O M G !!!!

Without doubt the best set I've ever heard.

4 hrs of bliss!

huge track after huge track, and I knew almost every single one of them.

TA crew was in full effect down the front. I was with some other friends for the 1st couple of hrs of Armins set but they got tired and left about half way through so I moved over to join the TA guys

Webmeister of course was there, as was Waxology and Helen, helen looking gorgeous as always Met Spang for the 1st time, an absolute legend, as well as Jace and a few other guys I forget the names of

Everyone was remarkably good at naming the songs, except for me, I knew almost every song but couldnt for the life of me remember any of the names

too many highlights to remember, was waitin for Yet Another Day and he left it right until the very last track, in the encore, right after I said to Webmeister, "I hope he plays Yet Another Day" Push- Strange World was another highlight, as was Perpetuous Dreamer - The Sound of Goodbye, Warrior - If you Want Me and so many others!

The other DJs were great too. esp Liquid M, the live act, some great aussie talent Rumour has it that if that night was a success then the altitude crew were looking at having a weekly night at Gas every friday night. There is no other way it could be seen as anything other than a massive success, so hopefully its true! If that happens it will be the best thing ever to happen to trance in Sydney

Well I cant sleep, I'm just reliving the night through mp3s atm

I was undecided about going to PVD but after the time I had last nite I'll definitely be there

I cant beleive I didnt go to this... I was tossing up about it. I loved his set at Two Tribes... and KNEW it would be great at GAS.. plus i really wanted to support my mates Diggs and Morro - how did they play by the way?

Would love to see that track listing! And.. did anyone record his set?

Cheers

Ahaha

That doesn't surprise me one bit. LOL

How was Armin's mixing? He was having problems with the stability of the decks @ TT. I heard he wasn't feeling well... was he still mixing it up with the punters? How was the atmosphere and the crowd? Was it hard to get up the front? Did he play "the weapon" at all?

Tata

Posted by Romp on Mar-07-2003 23:10:

the stabilty of the decks was fine, didnt notice any jumping or anything.

I'm not a DJ so I cant really judge the mixing except to say that I didnt notice a single beat out of place in the 4 hrs...

I heard he wasnt feeling well either, but he seemed fine to me, he was pumping the crowd up, hands in the air stuff, grinning, really involved.

However he didnt really stick around at the end to talk to the punters or sign or get pics taken etc, so if he was sick that makes sense, cos that seemed strange to me

The crowd was totally into it, hands in the air, never seen so many smiling faces and people yelling "WOOOHOOOOOOO" and such :P

wasnt too hard to get down the front, at the start it was a little hard to dance but on the whole there was enough space.

not sure about the weapon sorry

Posted by webmeister on Mar-08-2003 01:35:

Wow, it's amazing what a few hours of sleep can do for you
I feel coherent now!

OK so a review.
I made sure to get there fairly early, because I'd assumed there would a pretty big queue a'la Godskitchen last year. Jump out of a cab out the front of Gas at 9pm, and there is no-one in sight! OK, head for Paddy Maguire's pub around the corner, don't recognise anyone in there either. Oh well, settle in, have a couple of beers and watch the cricket.

Left Paddy's at around 9:45pm, head back to Gas. TA crew is already in force out the front - Cam and Helen with a bunch of friends chilling, waiting for the queue. Finally get in at around 10:30 - place is pretty much empty (unsurprising given we were at the front of the line). Most of the people in there were from TA or ITM, spent a good deal of time chatting to people and catching up etc etc.

By the time Morro took to the decks at 11pm the place was starting to fill up nicely, grooving to some solid progressive trance. Diggs took over for the next hour and dropped in some uplifting classics like Sound of Goodbye. Liquid M were up next and played their trademark brand of stomping hard uplifting trance - they are a quality live act, probably one of Sydney's best...

Halfway through Liquid M's performance, I noticed Helen and Cam go running off - didn't think anything of it. Stupid me - they scored a half hour interview with AvB himself! Bastards!!

Suddenly Liquid M were over, the clock struck 1 am, the house was packed with hands in the air, and the flying Dutchman himself appeared behind the decks. It was Armin time.

What can I say?? His set blew Two Tribes last Saturday out of the water - the mixing was extremely tight and the track selection was spot on. We managed to get pretty much the entire tracklisting, which I'm sure will be posted in the near future, but some of the highlights: Mesh - Purple Haze, Fingers Burnt - For a Devil mixed with PVD - For An Angel , 4x4 - Indigo, AvB - Yet Another Day, Solar Coaster (Midway mix), Armin's mix of Seven Cities, Frozen February (new Flaming June remix), and of course the incomparable Airwave vs Rising Star - Sunspot (DCML Mix). Apparently DCML stands for Don't Cry My Love - too late

Armin made the night, but having all the TAs front row centre took it that notch higher - you guys totally rock!! Thumbs up to Cam, Helen, Adam, Gil, Sidney, Simon (good to meet u at last!), Jon, Hal, Wade, Josh, Spang and Crasher-kid (sorry guys forgot your names ). Also the lurkers I met - you guys also rock! Apologies if I forgot anyone

Still can't believe that Armin spun for four hours - it felt like about an hour and a half! He could've played for another four hours and I simply wouldn't have noticed, though I was getting pretty tired by the end.

Only downer of the night for me were those attention whores on the stage If you wanna dance on the stage, fine, but do it off to the side! I paid money to see Armin, not some sweaty shirtless gurner or fat ugly middle-aged women who can't dance! Though they were at least moving when we told em to fuck off and get out of the way

So sad to see Armin step away from the decks after his encore, but all good things must come to an end I suppose. From what I saw, the place emptied fairly quickly after AvB left the building - would've liked to stick around to hear Stama's set, but I was pretty dead by that stage. Took my leave of everyone and made my way outside, into a cab and home.

What an amazing night - easily the best ever for me. Just having the Altitude DJs play at Gas would've been something special, but FOUR hours of Armin was just one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences! Even Sample Gee and Tom Brown of Nova 969 & the wigga posse was there! Represent!

And so the wait for pics begins...

Posted by dj_helen_k on Mar-08-2003 01:41:

ARMIN was AWSOME

mixing and track selection was unbelievable

the crowd was great

= THE BEST F**KIN NIGHT.

on another note:: Armin is soooooo good to his fans the man is charming.

This doesnt compare to Helens interview but nonetheless

I SHOOK HANDS WITH THE MAN .....(never washing it again!)

Ah I just thought it was some remix I hadnt heard before

Posted by jc on Mar-08-2003 03:03:

oh my
armin does it again

awsome tunes, awsome mixing, awsome vibe and awsome au.ta meetup
all 4 hrs were just magical - he's so much better in a small club I reckon.

tracks of the night for me:

james holden - nothing (returning 93 mix)
solar stone - solarcoaster (midway remix)
push - universal nation (push remix)
4x4 - indigo
viframa - cristalle (katana's intro mix)

downfall of the night - SHOCKING P.A.. my ears are still ringing like a bitch

funny moment of the night - seeing armin being escorted in a mitsubishi charade and saying "Come on, you can give the man a better ride than that!" he just laughed

Posted by Tranzmit on Mar-08-2003 03:16:

OMFG what a night!!! That was really amazing, one of the best sets i've heard him play full stop. W00t!!!

Helen and Cam i'm sooooooooooo jealous you guys scored an interview with the main man Armin, Congratulations big shout also goes out to crasher kid and webby you guys rule ! and these Ta's that I met for the first time djway and nervous respect to you guys.

What can I say ARMIN VAN BUUREN ! just absolutely awesome I died when he dropped Kansai - Rococco as webby was saying only downer of the night was those idiots dancing on stage, blocking our view of Armin, but yeah Armin rules can't wait till he hits our shores next time around.

Posted by Sid on Mar-08-2003 03:25:

can anyone ID the second track armin played ? I know the first track was Robert lidstroem - Recitation (Misja helsloot mix) but the second track he played straight after this, absolute tunage ! anyone ?

Posted by jc on Mar-08-2003 03:42:

hehe good partying with you madis as well as all the others.. web, wax, helen, romp, crasher-kid, gilmista and nixter! we owned that club!

The Green Martian - Wizardry

this killed me

Posted by gilmista on Mar-08-2003 04:03:

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G night - never heard a 4 hour set live - quite tiring and I could kinda imagine what it would be like for the DJ. Apparently his longest is 12 and a half hours -- WOW! However the man Armin kept the club moving and pumping throughout the whole set. Some of my favourite tracks of the night included Solar Coaster (midway remix), Hydra - Affinity, that remix of Sound Of Goodbye, FLAMING F*!#!*$G JUNE!!!!!!!!! *drools* - the highlight for me undoubtedly, and ofcourse For An Angel towards the end and Yet Another Day as his encore and final track.

The other guys before him (Liquid M) also showed some great talent and with the lady singing the vocals - very nice. cool to see some different gigs... makes the night more interesting.

All you TA's rocked the club - webby my man up the front, helen, wax, goldy(jace), madis, nikki, gendog, and everyone else.

See you all @ PVD.

Cheers,

Gil.
