who is God?

..or..what is god?

there's my question. go at it.

No vague, BS responses. Noone can have a vague faith that convicts their life.

armin? hehe, no seriously, defining God is a hard thing to do. it will differ based on who you ask. i would say, a higher power- a force who is responsible for all things in our universe. i used to be a good catholic girl so i prolly could have defined it better when i was like, 7.

Rasta

i dunno who, but i know what he is:

the one common link between all people on earth. doesn't matter what religion you are. if any.

being black, white brown or yellow, it don't matter. we all have the same blueprints.

2 ears, 2 eyes, 2 arms, etc etc.

there is only one god and appears to mankind in different forms.

god is the Hope that leading a good life on earth will bring us inconceivable happiness after we pass.

on that note, i will smoke a joint and find out some more information about god

"A guy who runs our country."

Muff your post doesnt really make much sense to me, sorry.

you should have counter-pointed with the fact that analogies are not an accurate way of debating.

I'm just stirrin' shit up as usual. don't fret.

fr0st <--dictionary.com bastard

The whole point is, the word God is perhaps the least clear word ever. Most people have this conviction towards this "God" without any clue what the hell it is.

-

OK... heres my take.

People think of God generally as one of three things.

1) The God in the Bible, Koran, and Torah, a human-like (a male actually, so he must be very human-like) being that focused the Universe around the Earth, and that created existance as an enigmatic puzzle of his own existance to find His true believers, for them to have outer-body beings that travel and rest to His domain when they die, if they follow a steady path that was carved through vague contacts through humans, and their works.

2) A collective "mysterious force" that binds the universe together. This is mysterious, and thus worthless to worship. Like Daoism, i guess. Really all depends on the person, basically a bullshit belief thats pretty cool.

3) A Divine being of unknown properties, that aided in the creation of the universe. Once again, out of our reach and knowledge, so worthless to worship.

There you have it. Am I wrong? Is it just me, or are some people just not thinking about it, and saying "Oh I believe in God."
"What is God?"
"You know..he..uh...made everything."

aite go for it. bash me with all you got, I DON'T know everything.

*EDIT: Oh yeah, forgot, there's hinduism and a few other takes on God, but they aren't that popular, and noone really cares about em.*

well, you were actually more accurate in defining god than she was, you said that it's a male with human like properties.

By the way, you got PWN3D so silence.

no im atheist/agnostic actually, I was saying that he had a more clear definition of God than you did, not that it was correct.

sorry if that wasn't clear. or maybe it was and you're just skimming through.

i understood what you meant very clearly. my question was why was his definition more accurate than mine? how can you be so sure God is a man? or even a human for that matter?

well, you never said it had to be a being

you said who or what.

therefore, i choose god to be an entity

Posted by fr0st on Mar-10-2003 06:47:

I still stand and i have photo evidence to prove it....
this is my god

Posted by tranceaholic on Mar-10-2003 08:00:

it is very easy to doubt god..being an athiest is cake...why u may ask? because god defies science..and most of us develop the scientific method of thinking and also god presents guidelines and rules and people always much rather not follow rules and such and so they would not invest in having faith..having that said i am a true believer in god..what does god mean to me? god is everything that is perfect..all the virtues you can think of..wisdom,courage,integrity,love,peace,strength etc etc..god is thee creator of the universe..that is why everything is created logically..not one creation is without use from rats to flies all are a part of the cycle of life and i dont think that is by accident,Only perfection can create perfection hence god..God is my guide..everything that is bad happens for a reason wether bad or good..God subjects us to tests to see if we fallow what hw had in mind for us..its like a teacher giving u an exam if u fail u feel bad and take the course again which sucks if u pass then the reward is so sweet..there are many ways to critique God and it is fairly easy not to believe in God..but that is also i consider a test and only those with faith will pass..and i guess we will know in this lifetime or the next..

where? bible, koran, torah, or just basic morals?

Posted by DrUg_Tit0 on Mar-10-2003 10:19:

Imo, god is an imaginary entity thought of by people as an explanation for the cause and occurance of natural events which they couldn't understand.

damn it, you stole the words out of my mind!

god is a woman, thus the shady conception of baby jesus.
now, don't go saying how if god was a woman, women would be superior in this world...

now, who told you god exists at all? IMHO, what people call religion, are basic laws of nature that have existed since eternity.
