F***'N Calgary

Ok calgary's really startin to be a piss off. Look at all this talent that keeps coming up to canada and calgary aint gettin shit. Sure PvD but big deal, thats it thats the only dj. By the time pvd is here last we would have had ferry, armin, sanchez, we knew about picotto. Like its really startin to suck im just glad i got my fix in toronto this past weekend with johan and ferry. Kieths a goof and we seriously need some new promoters in this town. Maybe even if van city promoters would start to get into it. Calgary has a scene at least a decent club scene and its running dry.

Arrow

hip hop is ruining everything.

I want to throw a party, but im not about to go and lose money on it.

Posted by dartrance on Mar-11-2003 22:40:

Well at least we do get a bit.. i mean look at edmonton they have
Nothing!

Judge jules is coming in the first week of may

and keith is apparently working on some more big events

Though i agree we need ferry armin picotto and everyone back!!

Posted by j_spot on Mar-11-2003 22:47:

honestly the city doenst have the $$$ for it.
Keith Dom and Chris are the only ones venturing into clubs. Everybody is spoiled with $15 GCS tickets.

Jules will make somebody money. first ive heard of it.

here, ill be like keith
somebody frozen and covered in water is coming
and somebody from GU 20 + is coming.
thats what im hearing.

Posted by dartrance on Mar-11-2003 23:33:

those are the "hints" for upcoming djs to calgary.. keith always drops hints before he announces LOL

and i am guessing goldclub is bringing in (his dates say a wednesday TBC) jules since they are the only ones that could afford him

Posted by Funk T on Mar-12-2003 01:14:

7 - Wednesday - TBC, Calgary, US Tour
From Judge Jules site

Posted by Vanilla on Mar-12-2003 05:10:

If I win the lottery, I'd throw a party in a second. But like Jspot said, Calgary cant really afford to have the big names come to town as much as Toronto or Vancouver can.

Posted by DJ_Eclipse on Mar-12-2003 05:13:

If all works out as planned maybe next year there will be a new promoter in town...

Posted by j_spot on Mar-12-2003 06:45:

Worm Popper

next year is next year, by next year, all of the 'ravers' of today will be jaded disillusions haters because there are now NO venues.

Well thats a bit tough to say, but with the smoking bylaw, and the rave bylaw, the effectivly chopped out all that we had left.
ill wait until its revisited and updated to close the holiday loopholes, but ya...this could really suck.

Posted by sweds00 on Mar-12-2003 21:20:

I dont really care
If the dj's come, thats fine with me.
If they dont come, its no sweat of my back. They are just parties. A dime a dozen so you could say.

exactly sweds....a dime a dozen! ..hua..

Posted by Thierry on Mar-19-2003 07:20:

Jules' dates also say "6 - Tuesday - US Tour" and since he has Calgary labelled as a US tour also, I'm hoping the 6th will be up here in Edmonton. We always get the DJs on the tuesday anyway... at least that's what I'm wishing for.

Posted by Funk T on Mar-21-2003 02:49:

Dime a dozen? Yea right dude! I wish we had a proper venue, atmosphere and lighting do a lot to a set being mixxed!

Posted by Tudo Beleza on Mar-24-2003 05:39:

Do you calgary folks know any big acts coming in july and augest as i will be returning back home and would love to catch a big act, hehe have been kinda spoiled out here, Tiesto, PVD, so on.(tronto that is)

Posted by j_spot on Mar-25-2003 07:36:

you can almost garauntee a big show stampede week
dont know who, but there will be a big show

Posted by Thracky on Apr-03-2003 07:21:

Yea I hate the Calgary scene. Hip hop is ruining this town I tell ya, it's all you can find at clubs. Hell I wouldn't care if we had big name DJ's if there was a bloody club that played electronica most of the time. Unfortunately we have no such place to my knowledge. I can't imagine how hard it is to break into DJ'ing electronica around here (And I'd like to eventually =\)

Can't complain about PVD tho.

the Dj market is very oversaturated.
you can bet you will be playing for free for a while, if you even get that lucky. Im sure you know its not all skill, its alot of who you know, who knows you.

And if you think there is no electronica around the city, you arent looking the right places. tho trance is way down there on playlists, you can go somewhere pretty much every night of the week for house, DnB, breaks etc
if you have questions, dont be afraid to PM me

Posted by Tony Morello on Apr-03-2003 17:48:

i'm just taking a little more time before really promoting myself
and as jason said, it's all about who you know and who knows you

i've made some pretty good contacts and am on a pretty good level with most of the promoters in the city
so once i decide to finally give it a go, i think i'll be alright

if only i were djing back when the city had a massive every other week
then it wouldn't be a problem

sad but true... my sound is really only fit for raves or afterhours

Well at least you stick to what you like, and not what the current fad is. I'd rather play my timeless uplifting stuff, then hiphop that gets old in a week.

Posted by King_Mack on Apr-07-2003 00:20:

Rasta

do you guys think there is enough trance heads in calgary? Enough to make a big name DJ event sold out? If you do, all your job is to now convince a club management to bring a name in. Money is never an issue IF management knows it will be a sold out show. I think its up to you guys, the TAs, to try to make a difference Tranceaddicts will make their stand...heck, we made such an impression that dave dresden(from gabriel&dresden) is now a tranceaddict! Get a couple bodies together and see if you can discuss with your favorite club management on what you'd like to see done.
Good luck

ps. encourage local DJs into throwing electronica parties..sometimes it can be as much fun

Those party things are a good idea! *looks at vanilla*

lol I seriously have no idea what you're talking about

Posted by j_spot on Apr-07-2003 09:56:

plain and simple
there is no loyalty in calgary.

area 51 lost ~$15000 when Armin came last june. fifteen THOUSAND. if that means anything, it should serve as a harbinger.

We may have an in @ the palace.(ok we do have an in) and the show was to be June 1, but then Tiesto june 4 fucked that all up.

Its being reworked now.
as well Dom/Ferhenheit has some good UK Hard trance coming our way.
Its all about the window of oppourtunity. There is only so many clubbers in calgary, only so many will come out for any given event, and bla bla bla, all the parties with no real growth in fan base is only hurting us.

Im trying hard guys, really I am.

Posted by dartrance on Apr-07-2003 17:25:

What shit!!!

I hope armin is rebooked then !
