"I have nothing but I have everything when I have you" - thats the translation of the Norwegian vocals ("Jeg har ingenting men jeg har alt nar jeg har deg) of PvDs brand-new single "Nothing But You. Even if, obviously, the lyrics are meant to illustrate the relation between two people, the words could also be used to describe Pauls new single and anticipate his new album (scheduled for autumn 2003). "Nothing But You delivers highly intensive music in perfect balance of power and emotion. If you play this single, you feel like embracing the essence of todays dance music!

After the introductory tunes (in the PvD and Vandit Club Mix) the key change accompanied with the vocals of UK singer Jan Johnston transform the track into an incredibly haunting piece of music which touches deep down, causes goose bumps all over your body and electrifies the downy hair of your neck. Jan Johnston, who was discovered by BT, has worked with Chicane and was signed to Perfecto by Paul Oakenfold, has left her unforgettable traces on the international club scene e.g. with the project Freefall feat. Jan Johnston and their massive hit "Skydive (check: www.janjohnston.com). Paul will keep on extending the inspiring collaboration with this outstanding vocalist on his upcoming album. In "Nothing But You her voice sounds as immaculate as a lighthearted little girl, but is full of positive energy and mystic charm which evokes and unveils oriental impressions.

Over the last few months, the rough cut of "Nothing But You formed one of the vital parts and highlights of PvDs DJ sets, and caused overwhelming club response and a massive internet hype. The track is based on a sample by Hemstock and Jennings, which fortunately materialised in the hands of Paul in the form of a promotional vinyl copy. Instantly, Paul was extremely fascinated and, on the spot, decided to create a complete track around this sample. He invited Les Hemstock and Chris Jennings, who release music on their own label Phaze and have gained their reputation with remixes for Ian van Dahl, Warp Bros., Dario G and many others (check: www.leshemstock.com), into his studio in Berlin to create the draft for "Nothing But You with their consent.

Paul van Dyk himself sees "Nothing But You far from any attempts at categorisation as simply "very modern pop music and wishes that the intensity of this track will leave his long-standing fans and a much broader public equally breathless. According to his own philosophy, a good record contains "music which grows with the people who listen to it. This track goes one step further as it was crafted after months of amazing club feedback and internet response - an experience which takes "Nothing But You to the next level.

hmm
it will be interesting to see what this is like, as i liked the version in the amnesia live set, but with these remixes and jan johnston doing it now (why??) it seems theres been a bit more work done on it. but for the moment, im quite content with my 'hemstock & jennings - arctic' record
