Satan (eek!) Any1 else starting to get sick of all the Female Vocals ???

I'm just wondering...

It's no secret that females are used in the vast majority of dance vocals as well as videos. Apparently, it's supposed to make the music sell more.. That's a whole different argument.

The thing is, it's ok to be watching a music video and getting a total stunner on the screen, but as far as the music goes, it is getting seriously boring for me.

It kinda struck me a few days ago. I d/l the lastest Dj Fuzion liveset and there was a track called "Running" by U-Phonics which I thought was brilliant from the very first time I heard it. As you might guess, the vocals in that song are male. I won't say that the vocals are excellent as that could be debateable but I really liked it and it was such a welcome relief from the usual!

Maybe it's just me who doesn't listen to quite the right stuff but I swear I'm getting sick of hearing female vocals on a good club track.

Just thought I'd bring it up.

HasTa

PS: if I were u, I'd check out that tune!

I just read the thread, and I'd have to agree sometimes. But you also mentioned DJ Tandu Presents U-Phonics - Running of which the Green Court Remix is nice. The male vocals just make a nice change I feel. Actually I might make a thread on people's fav trance song with male vocals.

Just don't mention Chicane with Bryan Adams

sometimes i like the vocals...and sometimes they have a great song and they ruin it with these damn vocals. all depends on what kinda mood your in.

Posted by Phaze on May-26-2001 03:32:

apparently there are two of the same threads rolling around...this is what i said in the other....

I hear what you're saying about the female vocals....some songs out there are just shit, using vocals to be more appealing but I can't say that I'm getting sick of them since quite a few of my favourite tracks have vocals in them. Some songs I think just wouldn't be any good without the vocals. I like songs that do keep the vocals to a minimun tho...not those ones where the songs just sound like a pumped up pop tune...they suck...

Vocals are OK in moderation. But they have to be good and thoughtful to really add to a song. Otherwise they just make things a bit cheesier. Same thing goes for too many vocals in a set.. cheese factor.

Smile they rock!

used well they can make a track!!! i think what they do is they make the track more specific if that makes any sense... so like people hear it on the same level but i guess thats just one aspect

Think what it would sound like if some guy was singing about the ghosts in his life or learning to fly or happiness happening???
The only time male vocals in trance have sounded good to me are in "The Generator - Where are you now" if you catch my drift.

yah, male vocals and trance mixed just don't cut it for me...sounds...well...gay...IMO.

Posted by Linx_da_cat on May-26-2001 05:53:

lol. gay. hehehe. i don't mind vocals from either sexes as long as it's tasteful and doesn't sound like it's just there because it's 'cool' or somethin'. it has to have substance ya know? and really adds to the track and not the opposite. like some trackz have vocals but detract from it's sound. bad bad bad.

tenth planet - ghosts
the morrighan - remember (to the millenium) (lange mix)
delerium - silence
guardians of the earth - one moon circling
delerium - innocente
desiderio - starlight (ferry corsten remix)

those are some that i feel are good trackz with vocals and i don't get bored of em because the lyrics actually make the song 'complete' if that makes sense.

if u ask me, i actually thought that
Apoptygma Berzerk - Kathy's Song (Green Court Mix)
the vocals from there aren't that bad =p
i'm sure noone else thinks that tho =p

i like sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet female voices

Smile Ok.

Good points raised.

I agree that it does give some more meaning to the song. I don't agree when you say that male vocals makes it sound gay - unless they're singing about Happiness Happening like some1 said.

I just really enjoyed that Dj Tandu tune and felt that there should be more like it.

Anyway, as far as general vocals go, I find vocalless tunes just as meaningful - with the advantage that it can mean different things to many differen people. eg:
William Orbit - Barber's Adagio for Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Rank 1 - Airwave (Dutch Force Remix)

Btw, I'll shoot any1 who says Maxi Jazz sounds gay!!!

hmmmmmm
does william orbit - barber's adagio for strings contain voices???
i don't think so

The vocalist is key. A cheesy sounding voice can ruin a track ie: Castles in the sky. The use of vocals has mass appeal...it will get airplay. Some ppl don't understand music w/out lyrics. Pvd's Tell Me Why & We are Alive became commerical only b/c of the vocals...his other tracks neva made it to radio in the U.S

Guardians of the Earth- 1 moon circling SICK Vocals!

Filter- Take a Picture (hybrid remix) great male vocal

Vocals are very distracting...u focus on the lyrics & not the beats. I can't stand house vocals...naseuating.

Cool

Most of the time I don't like vocals in trance.
But some female vocals are awesome
for example

zippora - lotus eater
and
andreas romero - sounds of silence

this vocals are so great
