Perception and the World

Even though we feel, smell, see, hear, and taste things, does that make the world we are living in real?

I would love to hear what people have to say about this.

What if life is just a dream in which we are an imagination of ourselves? - Tool!

Dood put that copy of The Matrix on DvD away for a while... you seem to be asking unanswearable questions...

ok tell me... whats outside the universe? are we the only ones?

Go think about that for a while...

Some cosmologists have speculated that there are infinite parallel universes that have every imaginable possiblity.......

For example in one universe, I die in a car reck at age 19. In another, I die of old age at 80.

that'd be so good, why don't i live in that dimension

the world exists how we perceive it so you could live in a different world than me because you perceive things differently

If I could use the search function I'd bring up Coup's old thread called something like "Is Anything Real".

Now that was an interesting thread.

Werd.

I believe in the consciousness dimension which is like a higher dimensional plane where our conscious/soul lies and is immortal. What you "perceive" is a manifestation of the "3-D" world into that higher dimension. Telekinesis is due to phenomena taking place in the consciousness dimension.

what if reality wasn't real? haha, wait. i'm confusing myself now...

There's no evidence that this world is real. However, when I take all the matters into account, it's either real or a damn good and detailed illusion. Therefore I am inclined to believe it is real because I don't see any reason for that sort of illusion to be created.

It's just too bad that there's no evidence of anybody ever expiriencing telekinesis.

Hmmm there was a really good debate on this spanning something 5 pages long in the political/debate forum. It was couched in soemthing about Iraq (go figure) but if you do a search for absolute certainty or absolute fact I'm sure you can find it. Careful though ... it delves deeply into astronomy, physics, and philosophy.
