Question Water On Vinyl?

well i was in a party on sunday.. and i saw the dj splash some water on the vinyl, and not by mistake, he did it twice.. why do djz do that?
is that appropriate?, what is it for?, i think he said to the other dj something about pumping up the sound or somethin...??

J.. He's just a dumbass ...

The mofo didnt put ligaya !! .. He must die

Posted by Martin McG on Mar-20-2003 13:24:

i think it would be more of a hinderance than anything! unless he was trying to clean it from static?

Posted by DJ-Kuza on Mar-20-2003 16:16:

It helps reduce poping

Posted by YuVaL on Mar-20-2003 21:50:

but there was no poping (and no ligaya also.. )

coby.. next time we shot the ******

Posted by Phu on Mar-20-2003 22:59:

I think its more for cleaning.

Posted by P`zazz on Mar-21-2003 00:22:

hmm, but does it work??

if it does then I can see from now all my 12" splashed in H20, damn static

Posted by DJ Kibon on Mar-21-2003 02:17:

...I know what you mean.

I have all sorts of static problems with my vinyl, which varies from record to record, attracting tons of dust.

Posted by Funk T on Mar-21-2003 02:55:

Anybody know if this is correct? why would you not just use an anti-static dust wipe? Computer stores usually carry them!

Posted by DJ Charlie on Mar-21-2003 04:41:

splashing your records will destroy the label on them

Posted by sektile on Mar-21-2003 05:28:

its used for cleaning, sometimes with soap its quite good.

the only problem with anti-static dust wipes are your "pushing" the collection of shit around the vinyl, and sometimes that isnt really helping

Maybe he wanted to create a waterfall effect with his music.. LMFAO who knows.. maybe for cleaning.. or give the sound that underwater talk effect?

he wasn't spinning it live as he splashed water on it did he?

Or maybe he was so hyped up that he was sweating all over the place ans sweat landed on the vinyl, therefore he had to clean it since sweat has chemicals that may ruin vinyl? anyone doing bio-chemistry @ college?? LOL

Really who the beep knows.. u should have just asked him...

In that case, he better stay away from my vinyl!

dude, he did it live, twice... and it kinda pumped up the bass of the vinyl a bit...
and no it wasn't sweat...

Posted by DJ-Kuza on Mar-21-2003 19:33:

I've seen many DJ's do this.

Posted by Mister_Michel on Mar-21-2003 21:13:

That's the first I ever heard about this

Posted by Luke Terry on Mar-22-2003 12:46:

Cool

i wouldn't recommend doing this at all because styli are generally made from very soft steel and WILL RUST. so if you do this they will be physically scratching the grooves of your records clean, you destroy a vinyl every time you play it, rusty styli aint gonna help, especially if you pay a lot for em

Posted by eieregooie on Mar-22-2003 19:50:

Who cares as long as they're not your styli

Be careful with soap though...

i dont know about throwing water on it live, sometimes before i mix, i take a soft paper towel and wet it a little, and run it over the vinyl to take off extra dust, but throwing water on it while you are playing is dumb, what if the water gets into the turntabel or on teh mixer and fucks it up, haha

Posted by DJ-Kuza on Mar-24-2003 15:47:

Let me clearify. I've watched HEADLINERS do this.

Posted by apa on Mar-27-2003 16:13:

Problably those stupid dj's don't care for the vinyls they are playing on, and was thinking of throwing them into the garbage bag anyway. And please don't use normal water on the vinyls it contains chemicals that will eat it up.
