Umm, dont run a lot
Depends what you are looking to do
if you want to build a lot of bulk fast, lift as much as you can with low reps
once you have muscle and just want to do toning and stuff, lower the weight but to more reps
dont strain yourself
and ask other people, preferably trainers, at the gym for advice

Well I guess the major split is either you wanna lose weight fast, you wanna gain weight and gain muscle, or you wanna keep your weight and just gain muscle.
Well right after you know which of those three you want to do, then you have to incorporate a routine. If you want to just lose weight as fast as possible and thats it, then just do cardio(running, biking, etc.) bout 3 times a week.
If you want to gain weight and gain muscle then don't do any cardio but start lifting weights.
The latter is which I also fall into. I don't do much cardio, but I lift and try to eat right.
For tips on working out and on routines, there are tons of good articles on www.bodybuilding.com
Play a sport. It's more fun than running. Weights are good plus it doesn't take very much before you start seeing a difference.
