Scarab (aka Airbase) - Vagabond (8 Wonders Mix)

Here's a little something I did yesterday for my good pal Jezper! I liked the original very much, so I asked him to remix it, and of course he agreed

Hope you likes!

It's lofi because my webspace only allows 10MB of space!

If the link doesn't work please let me know!

good remix. the saws are cool and the synth for the main melody sounds better than the original. the drums don't seem very powerful, though. but that can be due to the quality of the mp3.. nice job overall!

sounds like a great remix, shame its only 96 kpbs

Posted by 8Wonders on Mar-23-2003 22:26:

Thanks

Actually it's 64kbps! If anybody wants a high quality version, PM me and I'll try to get it to you. Nothing I can do about it otherwise, since my webspace only allows 10MB as I mentioned, unless someone wants to host, then that'd be great!

I am listening to it now and it sounds very nice.
What program did you use? What synths?

Nice chill atmosphere with enough variations to keep things interesting, although I would have preferred to have a "full-on section" that is a little harder. The melody is awesome, but I'm guessing from your post it's not yours.

Great job, thumbs up

Sounds decent... Don't really know what else to add

Hmm, I really think Jezper/Airbase kind of stole this melody from Kamaya Painters - Far From Over. It sounds very much alike. But that's not your fault DC-

Cheers,
LW

This particular remix was recorded at a friend's studio. Some of the synths I used mainly include the Nord Lead 2, JP8080 and a couple of Novastation sounds here and there. I also used some soft synths like Atmosphere and Absynth.

As far as the melody is concerned, I see no similarities, and from my knowledge Jezper doesn't even like any Kamaya Painters tracks, so it's highly doubtful that he 'stole' it from them.

Ok, I'll have a listen to that kamaya painters track again (the Wavestate rmx)

Is the atmosphere a nice tool to use? I've been thinking about buying it, but I'd like to have some advice on it too (expensive stuff as always).

Atmosphere is one of the best software sample-based synths you can buy out. There's plenty of variety and the sound quality is simply superb. The only "downside" is that it requires a heep of storage space (4GB approximately).

Some have even went as far as to compare it to the Korg Triton, which is an excellent all-around synth.

Thumbs up

Nice track with great melodies on it. Keep up good work.

Did you know that a 64kbps OGG file equals a 128kbps mp3 but it only takes half the space?

Heh, indeed I do! I know someone who is involved in the development of the codec, but I'm just too lazy to use it

ooh that's a damn big softsynth!

i'd better buy an additional harddrive then

excellent remix well done DC! id love to hear more of your stuff i am always making compilation albums of unsigned music, i think its the freshest

reminds me of solar stone style!!!

do u have a JP8080 hardware or just refill??

Posted by 8Wonders on Mar-27-2003 10:02:

Actually I have a confession to make, I don't use any hardware. I just wanted to see what the general impression people had of the sound.

There's a general notion that if you mention you use software, people will pick one aspect or the other to point out the flaw and that it indeed does sound like the software package you use (eg. ah yes that sounds like fruity). But on the other hand if you mention that you use hardware, nobody seems to question that. Judging by the comments, I don't think anybody expected it to be done in fruityloops.

So, this track was composed using fruityloops as the main sequencer with a few other VSTI's, Atmosphere being one, but not Absynth.

Posted by JohnOC on Mar-27-2003 10:13:

wow thats amazing!

i didnt know fruity had such good synths

it must be plugins you have..??

Posted by dbl on Mar-27-2003 19:15:

sounds really nice.

offcourse you can make great stuff with fruityl.. just listen to parker, flutlicht and all the others that use it.

but you need other samples caus the fruity samples suck and some nice softsynths
