We ARE making a difference, and we will NOT give up.

As a good friend of mine (who at the moment isn't able to post for himself) pointed out to me, the server that hosts your anti-america bullshit is run by an american company!!!

HAHAHAHAHAHahahahahaAHAHAHAHAHA... you crack me up.
you boycott American Products, yet you publish your website on an American server whos headquarters is in Virginia! The exact address being: 885 Kempsville Rd
Suite 309
Norfolk, VA 23502
USA

Whats up with that?

Ohh, and JohnSmith - tiesto14 says hi!
HAhahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think Johnsmith is anti-american so much as he is anti-war. Hehe what you should be asking is whether this company is anti-war or not! If not you should extend your boycott to this company john haha.

Posted by DaveSZ on Mar-25-2003 08:18:

John, if you decide to boycott your computer I;ll gladly take it.

Not making fun of you, just saying......

then boycott the whole freaking internet

most backbones go through the usa at least in this part of the world + the telco you're using will be no matter what be linked to the usa either usa owned or affiliated somewhere ( cause telco companies are all linked worlwide ) + boycott the freaking internet, you are aware after all that what we are using is only a military product made freely available to the public? hence by using the internet you are supporting usa research and the developement of it's usa armed forces

seriously in today's society as much as you say war don't work, boycotting works even less.

Guess we'll never be seeing JohnSmith around here ever again. JohnSmith, i suggest you put together your 'own' internet!

For the 'world wide web', you could have the 'Limited Liberal Loop'!
Wow, what a great idea! Let me know when its up... but dont email me, because i use hotmail. hope your comp is not made by a US comp!

Oh, wow.

I can't beleive there's so much hate here. Melech_mike, what's gotten into you? You've turned into another tiesto14. Whatever happened to the concept of the Political Forum, discussing ideas objectively? Instead it's become a hotbed of throwing insults and putting down others, in part due to nationalism and racism.

"Thus did Nationalism rear its ugly head once more..."

People! How about you get off your arses, stop listening to your biased egos, and look at things with open eyes?

Go to John's website and read the pledge carefully!

quote:

Because I am one of the millions of people against the war;
(my italics)

Notice, how it doesn't say against America?

quote:

And because the American government has made it clear that it wont listen to world opinion;

Does anyone seriously, seriously think this is not true?

quote:

And because the symbols of American power are its corporations and their brands;

Ok, this one's a little wishy-washy, see my discussion below.

quote:

I hereby pledge to boycott Brand America, from the moment the war begins and to the best of my ability until the empire learns to listen.

Notice, "I hereby pledge to boycott Brand America."

As in, Imperial America.

As in, American Hegemony.

Not "America" per se, nor American products, nor American ideals, or anything of the sort!

Do you see the distinction?

I think that the line, "And because the symbols of American power are its corporations and their brands," is misleading, because (as I see it) it's intended to give force behind the "Brand America" image, NOT to mean that American corporations and brands must be boycotted! Notice how it doesn't say explicitly that that should be done! It just says, those are its symbols.

John, I'd suggest considering rephrasing that line to clarify this very important point.

Otherwise, it might sound a little hypocritical to those who are not willing to read plainly, but instead choose to read what they want to read, and to interpret it in their own way, as we can see in this thread.

Sorry, but it seems like you're more than just a 'messenger'...

In any case, mike, I'm not personally attacking YOU. I'm attacking those who listen to their prides and not their brains.

Actually, there are easily just as many anti-war people who are like this as are pro-war.

Gives me an idea for a new thread... but I'll get to that later.

hehe, no, not at all.

I was merely pointing out the obvious!

If you have nothing to say in regards to the topic at hand, then please don't do stuff like this:

quote:

now dissect this pic:

That shows how much hate is around here...

If someone is anti-war, all of a sudden they're anti-American as well?

Alccode mate, I'm sorry I think you really took my last post the wrong way. I wasn't in any way trying to deride your argument; in fact I agree with every single thing you said, and the way you broke down JohnSmith's statement was quite Foucault-esque. That is the reason I posted the pic, and asked if you were a deconstructionist (a serious question!). Maybe I went a little overboard with the pic, but it was a serious question, as the pic is a comment on relation between signs and those objects signified, something a deconstructionist might know about. (And also it was another way to lighten up a negative thread ) But hey mate, I wasn't hatin' on you, and I'm sorry that it came across as it did.

I knew something was fishy about that, because when you post you are very considerate and unbiased.

So sorry for misunderstanding you! I didn't look at the pic long enough. (so I guess my answer to your question is "no", lol!)

To tell you the truth, after Mental Exodus posted, I realized my error, but didn't edit my post, as I almost never edit them once someone has posted after them.

Anyway, I don't really get the pic... can you explain it to me? lol

I'm sorry( to myself above everyone else) that my posts send out such a strong signal of hate.

I do not hate any of you on TA, i dont know you well enough to hate you.
Yes i do disagree with many of my fellow TA's, but that in no way should be misinterpreted as hate.

What can i say, my emotions get the best of me sometimes - i'm only human! I can only take so much. This is how i express my frustration.
My therapist told me its better than "bashing in peoples head's"!

So to those of you who can't take a little heated confrontation, i apoligize for the intenceness of my opinions. To those of you who dont mind so much, well nothing i guess!

lol, awesome! This is much better than getting into a tiesto14-style argument. I commend you!

Just so I can share in your situation, I, too, have a tendency to go just a *little* too far... i.e. see a few posts up...

You go on to proclaim that since we are using a website that is run off an American server, we are contradictory on our thougths against the war??!?!?!?!?

The gas you put in that car in your avatar comes from an Arab nation.

Will you boycott driving?

I actually have my own supply line running from the Yukon.

I never claimed to ban anyone's products.

Also, i prefer Esso (Exxon in the states), to Petro-Canada.
I have my reason's and I make sure those around me know how i feel and they tend to do the same(switch from petro to esso)! What a wonderful world i live in.
