a question

so a group of students from nothern-sweden came to estonia to visit us. They were at our school today, and they stayed in our class. So we were communicating, and I decided to move the topic to music.
so I asked "what kind of music do you, swedes, like?" all of a sudden everybody started to whisper to each other jsut like I had sayed something insulting..

well did I? I felt pretty bad aferwards, but I didnt dare to go and ask them what the problem was..

Did I say anything wrong?

nice going guys I ask for help and U guys answer in..... swedish of course

Posted by Glorie on Mar-25-2003 18:29:

haha, nevermind the guys thunderbird.. I'll say it to ya in eng.

they are saying that "swede" means hmmm... its like a root vegetable in whatever language.. this makes me dizzy

so they (guys in here) thought, what u were saying was something like

What kind of music do u root vegetables like ?

BUT. < I cant believe any swedish person would know that... (the second meaning of the word) Because its a strange and hard one.. and not that many swedish persons knows about it....(me for example)

SO the swedish pupils visiting your class must have been very shy or weird, not replying... I DONT think,... they took it as an insult.. I mean, that they understood what the word "swede" meant... not in a lifetime... no swedish speaking person is that good hehehhehehe

prejudice? yes... mouhahhaha

edit: neeee ja skriver inte.. snt.. hahaha

in written English there is a difference between "swede" and "Swede", but in spoken English they sound the same

edit: i doubt however, that many Swedes know that there even is a second meaning (ie. "swede"), not the most common word
