Losers- tracks

there is two songs that are coming from people i think are good producers. This two songs are Love on the run from Chicane and Venus from Cor Fijneman. I heard a lot of hype about them and i recently listen them. I can say with open heart this are the some of the worst tracks this year.
Cor Fijneman saw what Paul Oakenfold did with Southern sun and he decides to produce kind of the same song. I mean you can clearly hear the vocals pretty much the same. And asking Tiesto to remix it just shows how he wanted to be something like Paul Oakenfold- Southern sun(Tiesto mix). Thats offcourse its not something big. Many people do this kind of stuff, but funny how Venus turned out worst than i can expect. Its just not anything special.
Chicane is returning and why? To release something called Love on the run. I asked myself "what the fuck?". I actually think it can grow on you, but here comes the shock. Blank&Jones remix just killed all my hopes for anything better.
Rank 1- Airwave(Breathing) just heard that one. And i will add it to the "bad" tracks this year. What the hell is that? I say go make some new music and leave the classics behind. Stop and i really mean stop releasing ur only hit again and again with or without vocals.

I am Micheline and this has been reality check on some of the tracks nobody dare to attack, but should!!

Love

OMG Southern Sun i fucken love that song so much .....

Love on the Run gets repetitive after a while and is far from Chicane's best work. But I still like it and I'm still looking forward to the new album! I don't recall there being any hype and I disagree that it's one of the worst tracks released this year.

I can't vouch for Cor Fijneman but I agree that Breathing was a big disappointment - then again I never expected much in the first place and I don't know why everyone was getting so excited about it

wtf? how are cor fijneman - venus and oakenfold - southern sun similar? i just can't find any obvious similarities, the vocals are totally different type and the backgrounds are totally different too, so wtf? tisto has remixed both, and? even his remixes of the two tracks are totally different! i just can't see any point in your argument, but hey everybody is entitled to have an opinion.

and for the chicane track i pretty much agree, it's not that good. the vocals suck big time. why do you have to get daddy dj type vocals, they are horrible! the force five a.k.a. rob searle remix is pretty good though. if you'd remove the vocals and the annoying tooting in the middle, it'd be just fabulous!

I didn't like Love on the Run either, and I haven't given Venus many listens yet...but that doesn't mean some people don't liek them...

Venus (Tiesto mix) sucks , but the Outstanding mix is exactly what its remix suggests ! OUTSTANDING

chill, its only their opinion. they dont like some songs, eh whatever. no need to say fuck off, your name may be protrance, but you act like cheesetrance right there

Posted by noikeee on Mar-26-2003 14:21:

i haven't heard chicane's tune neither cor fijneman's version of venus, but to say tiesto remix of venus is the worst track of the year is just plain DUMB.

Posted by starglider on Mar-26-2003 14:26:

Cor Fijneman's work doesn't deserve to be disparaged like that. Sure, there are those who bash the Tiesto remix because it's the cool thing to do, but Cor has always been on the forefront of the Dutch trance wave. He's produced with Black Hole label mates like Tiesto and Geert Huinink for years now (co-produced many Allure tracks, for example) and doesn't always get the credit he deserves. He's recently hitting his stride in terms of big solo productions (Venus, Exhibition) and it's nothing if not pure Dutch trance. Add vocals from Jan Johnston that are unobtrusive at worst and you have a release that should please even the most discerning trance fan.

As for Love On The Run, I like it but I'm not surprised at the flak it's recieved. For one, Nick Bracegirdle's absence from the scene was so long that any comeback short of an absolute miracle would have left people saying, "but... but... Saltwater was better." We're easily blinded by nostalgia and it's hard to judge new works by their intrinsic value as opposed to their nostalgic appeal. In these cases the old tracks almost always win. Furthermore, it's a style slightly different from his old productions. A bit housier, a bit groovier. All the better, I say. Many producers get ripped into for repeating the same sound and one could hardly fault Nick in that respect.

And Breathing? No argument from me here. I generally despise it when old, instrumental tracks are revived with vocals in an apparent cash-grab attempt. That's not to say it can never work (see Perception) but the vast majority are simply horrible and make a mockery of the original work. Breathing is sadly no different.

Intrinsic value eh? *Adds to vocabulary*

It has to be said, you are so educated to critique Chicane and his work. In fact you know everything about him. He has two albums:

Far from the maddening crowds
Behind the Sun

He is a God and the release of his much anticipated next album by his fans has been too long in coming. I think Love on the Run is awesome. All artists change so you shouldn't expect them to create the same music. If they did it would be extremly boring when an artist like PVD released a new album because it would just be a clone of last one. From now on when you have crticism for an artist make sure you are showing an educated viewpoint. If you don't like the song just say so. When you question chicane for coming back without knowing anything about him as an artist, you prove your just an idiot spouting off.
