How Approachable is PVD? (Update: I got my pic)

I'm seeing PVD 2 weeks from tomorrow. Anyways my best friend has backstage passes and is major friends with the DJ that is on just before Paul so one way or another, I'm going to bet back there to hopefully meet him. My question is, would Paul be down for me to take a picture with him? How about just a handshake? I've heard he can be a little snippy and arrogant. If Paul snubbed me, it would suck my ass. Those of you that have met him what was he like? Every other time I have ever seen him, you couldn't get near him so I always gave up. I'll do my best to get a pic with him and let you know how it all turns out.

Right on, I personally wouldn't want people talking to me during my sets either.

I think this is a given! No dj wants to be bothered while hes mixing...

very approachable... if he's in a good mood...

Well the only time I've personally seen PvD live, he wasn't all that approachable In my experience at the church in denver, every dj that i've seen there comes down from the booth aferwards and signs autographs. Paul did sign a few but then they rushed him outta there, and he didn't seem like he wanted to really be signing autographs and takin pics. I figured I was a given to get an autograph, considerin that I was the only fuckin person there w/ a damn pvd dvd, but nope! Oh well got a pic w/ sander k last night so its all good!

Yep. Nobody should try to bother you....

But then, I remember going to some "raves" where you could talk to the Dj and request songs.

Posted by torontotrance on Mar-28-2003 23:08:

almost all deejays will tell you to fuck off if you bother them during a set but before or after...depends on the dj imo.

get out

Posted by torontotrance on Mar-28-2003 23:25:

I've heard he has done that sometimes in the uk technaut...but then again...deejays sometimes have other gigs in other countries.

Defintely after his set is when I'll make my move. There is no way in hell I would ever approach a DJ during his set as I know how shitty that can be. Someone is blubbering on you while you are trying to beatmatch and get ready to throw in the next track. I would expect PVD to beshnick my ass off if I attempted such a thing.

Posted by Vanilla on Mar-29-2003 00:22:

Well I hope he's approachable, I'll be wearing a Vandit shirt and bringing my For an Angel vinyl, so he better stick around after his set or

he ususally chips off pretty quickly

PvD is very affable, although he does like to leave a bit early (as everyone has said), although you should definitely be able to get an autograph and/or picture if you're at the booth when he's over with the set.

my friend saw pvd at ultra walkin around a few hours before his set and we rushed over to say hi, and he shook my friends hand, and then PVD's wife flipped out and ran away and then paul and the rest of his group ran after her. It was very weird.

Is your friend a wildly attractive model?

hmmm...i think i know who you're talking about

ne-wayz, wish you good luck meeting PvD. i think i'll stay on the sidelines, i've seen the guy before, and got his signature,...had another chance to talk to him as i was last one out of the club and he was just standing there looking all confused while trying to locate an EXIT @ the showbox. but i didnt wanna bother, he looked like he wanted OUT fast.

imo, he doesn't seem like a friendly guy who likes pictures. i think i saw only 1 TA take a pic with PvD, and we all know who that is

i met BT & got a pic taken with him as well as a chance to exchenage a couple of words. not that's one friendly guy.

PvD is just shy. Does not mean he is necessarily undfriendly. Didn't look like that when I saw him. Hopefully this time I will get the chance to say something to him. If not ah wellz.

lOl

I've heard very little about PvD's wife, due to the fact that he probably wants to leave his personal life out of public scrutiny. But I've always wondered, what's his wife like? Is she a clubber girl who loves to hear him play live and go to parties with him? Is she supportive of Paul? Or is she not really into the scene, she just likes him personally, and let's him do his thing?

Posted by DiS on Mar-30-2003 05:45:

Never seen the guy live. Judging by his pics on the album covers, I doubt that he's a friendly fella. Then again, who knows!

btw, being told "FUCK OFF" by PvD is a bitch!
How about this, "TA" will be the keyword on April 20th. All TA's get together and push all the Non-TA's outta the way! Don't forget about the little underage TAs too! We are the future of trance! After his set, ALL TA's get together and take a pic with PvD! hm...then we all make a shirt with the pic on it...and...ahem..alright..I'm getting a bit creepy now.

Yea, PvD is extremely shy especially with cameras. When he was here at the Roxy last month, he tried to hide from cameras when he went on bathroom breaks. After he was done spinning, I heard he stuck around to sign bunches of stuff before the Roxy crew started closing it down. I think he's one of the few DJs who really does it for the fans and music more than the $. As long as you don't shove stuff to his face or anything, you'll get what you want. Oh, and he bolts quickly cuz he probably has to rest up for the following gigs the next day.
