I think I figured out what PVD and BT's song "Namista" means

After doing a lot of searching on the web and trying to translate, I basically found a site from someone's speech to a church. At the end they say what Namista means... here's an exerpt...

"Buddhists have one word for the thousands I have written here. It is a greeting which takes the place of "hello." Its not a handshake. It does not invade the other persons space with physical contact. Its the folding of the hands for prayer in front of ones own solar plexis. Its a nod of the head in recognition of the other. Its the uttering of one single word

"Namista."

It means, "The God inside me greets the God inside you."

So simple.

So complex. "

I thought that was pretty neat. Just wanted to share it with everyone.

Makes sense--I've also seen that song as Namistai/Namaste, the derivative Sanscrit/Hindi word for greeting

Posted by Spective on Mar-31-2003 08:35:

Namistai is just quite simply the Hindu word for Hello.

i like that..."the god inside me greets the god inside you." thanks for sharing, man

Posted by dEEkAy on Mar-31-2003 12:39:

jus one question:

isnt the song called "NAMISTAI" and not "NAMISTA" ?

yes it is

compare the search results of
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...G=Google+Search

with

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...G=Google+Search

obviously "Namista" was a mistake in someones "mp3" tag

Thanks for the research

More info @ http://www.namistai.com/ :
quote:
Namistai is a Sanskrit word that means "I bow to the divine in you." It is a greeting, a welcome, an invitation to communicate.

why is it funny? People aren't psychic to know what others on this board know. I too know what "namistai" means as well as various other sanskrit words (my name being one of them), nothing to boast there. To know why BT had chosen that particular word for the track would be nice to know tho.

dunno man i just found it funny...

it's like a foreigner finally getting to know the meaning of "hello" ...

and u've been saying hello for how many years now???

thats why i found it funny... anyways.. like i said... there are lots more to discover!!!

cheers!!!

Woow now thats got me thinking.. so cool..

reminds me of the ying-and-yang theory of the chinese ?

Posted by Keh mon on Apr-01-2003 05:07:

Heh yeah I guess my version was misspelled. Sorry about that. At least it still has a similar meaning. I think it's definately cool knowing what these songs titles mean. Especially the ones without words.

That is interesting...It is nice to learn the meaning of track names...thanks for the insight

Thumbs up

So now I'm assuming some of you may want to know what or who "Shiva" is since Paul's first alias was the Visions of Shiva...???

In Hinduism, Shiva is simply the destroyer God.....he had aliases as well: Shankar, Mahadev, Natraj, and Mahesh...
