SARS, A serious threat?
Just wondering if anyone else is worried about this.....SARS stands for Sever Acute Respitory Syndrome.... Severely efffected areas are mostly in Asia but over 100 cases in canada have been reported... More info can be found at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/2856735.stm and http://www.who.int/csr/sars/en/
naw, Id have a better chance of getting cancer or crunched in a car wreck or something than dying from that. The media just likes to sensationalize everything they get their hands on. And we will probably find a vaccine/treatment soon enough anyways.
SARS is spreading quick in toronto, and its causing Chaos. Several bouncers at nightclubs were wearing masks
I just hope this gets resolved soon and the upcoming PVD show doesnt get cancelled
probably the next aids if it doesn't have a cure soon. my parents live in hong kong so i pray to god that nothing will happen to them. the city seems to have the SARS spreading like wildfire.
I'm quite scared myself.
hahah its kinda freaky cause I JUST WATCHED 12 monkeys in which a virus wipes out 5.5 billion people.
hahaha.
w/e if I'm gonna die from sars, I'm running to the biggest building in vancity and throwing myself off, a much nicer way to die i htink.
"So far, there have been 487 cases outside China and 18 deaths. "
and
"The mortality rate for the illness is approximately 4% - higher than many respiratory infections."
those pretty much answer the question of weather its a threat or not
first of all there lets say theres a million people in your area (gross underestimation) so far the chances for u to get the disease is....0.0487%
then only 4% die...
so yoru chances of dying are......0.001948%
your chances of going blind from laser eye surgery are like 1%
and im not sure about this but i think your chances of falling down stairs and dying are higher
soooo yeah
ill sars ur mom

Epidemiologically it could be a huge threat as it is mutanagenic. It has become a pandemic (across continents). It appears to be highly adaptable, meaning a cure could be difficult.
But saying that, we are getting somewhere in halting its progress before a certain stage.
Two things are key to stopping the disease now:-
-Control of those that are infected
-Figuring out the disease's specific aetiology.
Sorry about the big words, I have done a lot of geographical epidemiology in my degree.

It's in the UK now, an elderly couple from scotland are suspected of having it, contracted off holiday to china-hong kong etc
Infected with SARS, you'll have a 3% chance to die
I think SARS is an international plan to get rid of old people, in order to stop paying them retirement money
