uh, won't you get reallllly fuxored with copyright stuff???

Posted by fr0st on Apr-01-2003 08:01:

lots of comapanies will cut vinyls for about the same price....And yeah it prolly is ilegal but hell....who is gonna know..even if they see a bunch of white labels in your bag, who is gonna know?

Posted by DCaff on Apr-01-2003 08:16:

i think some will know when the sound quality comes puring out the speaker sounding like shite. and who knows maybe if we can all just cut our mp3's to vinyl we would never have to but another record again. Since we wouldnt be buying records artist would stop making new tracks, no new tracks no more mp3's. Talk about one of the worst idea's ever!

Posted by mikefasssy on Apr-01-2003 08:25:

I am not talking about the vinyls you would recieve, I am talking about publicly acknowledging the fact that you cut vinyls for money. That is like putting a webiste up about "This is the next bank I am going to rob and here is how I am going to do it, and this is where I live if I need to be contacted"

I would lovvve this service, I just would like to know what the owners plan on doing about legal stuff etc....

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Apr-01-2003 08:42:

It's a good idea if you're talking about people's own tunes but... um... if it's about stuff you've downloaded, then

Posted by J-LoOks on Apr-01-2003 08:48:

If you can offord them themselves dont eb sad just buy them , but if your poor all power to you.

Posted by teo on Apr-01-2003 08:58:

well its a good tool for talented djs that want to go forward and dont have the right connections etc.

Posted by kr00t0n on Apr-01-2003 09:37:

For god's sake ppl, at least investigate a little more before you flame it:

From the legal disclaimer:

You declare that you have all the necessary rights, in particular, intellectual property rights, copyrights to any material that you submit as a user. All music uploaded to this server must be own by the user. You are solely responsible for any legal problems that arise due to material you upload into this site.

So, I think I might be putting some of my tracks onto 12" then

Posted by noikeee on Apr-01-2003 10:20:

a bit too expensive, but thats compreensive. only worth if you're a dj and really need an unreleased track on 12" or something. or if you want to promote your own stuff.

Posted by J-LoOks on Apr-01-2003 10:30:

I agree with you PaRaNoIk0

Posted by kr00t0n on Apr-01-2003 11:59:

well, if my next track is good enough, I might make myself a copy, its only 36, not alot of money really.

What I would love to do is put Ayumi - Trauma (Dumonde) on it, but that's copyright infringement right? even tho it wasn't released?

Posted by joeh on Apr-01-2003 12:26:

its only useful for putting a really rare track or your own track on vinyl though... its not like it will stop people from just going out and buying vinysl - and you'ld be foolish to believe it would.

Posted by mr_smidge on Apr-01-2003 12:33:

I would assume that the major (legal) use of this kind of service would be to promote your own songs, by having them pressed to vinyl. You would also be able to play your own tunes in a club without having the shame of having to use a CDR (it's a difference of opinion whether using CDRs is shameful in a club )..

Here's my point.. From the website:
quote:
The process is unbelievably easy. Simply upload your MP3 or Audio CD files and well send you a 12 Vinyl.
..
Before placing an order please make sure your audio files are restricted to the allowable time limits and that they are in MP3 format.

If you are going to be hammering out your own tunes like nothing at clubs after your very own vinyl has been made (and I'm sure you would), then it would be an incredibly bad idea to have your vinyl pressed from such a format as MP3. It is common knowledge (or damn well should be) that MP3 files lose a lot of low-frequency notes (to drive subwoofers effectively) as well as high-frequency notes.

For anybody who knows enough about audio, limiting their customers to only using MP3 cannot be a good move. Whatever happened to such immensely superior formats as Ogg Vorbis and even FLAC.

For a site that insists you upload your files, they do warn "In order to achieve the best sound quality your MP3 should preferebly have a high bit rate (High Quality)", but it only makes sense to use a format that gives you the best sound quality per bit, and that's not MP3 for sure.

Damn, I sound cocky..

Ssssh! Nobody was meant to know about that.. now my secret's out! Argh!

Posted by Rememberence_ on Apr-01-2003 15:10:

I think this is a useful service because:

1) It can used to put your own productions on 12" like many people have said

2) You can put a track on vinyl that wasn't released on vinyl. eg - maybe you bought the cd single but would rather not spin with a CDJ... it is well within your rights to then back up your cd single onto vinyl format, since you paid for the cd in the first place.

Regarding the initial flaming of this - I seriously doubt people are going to stop buying vinyls and just press their mp3s instead. It costs 36 pounds or something right?

Posted by jdat on Apr-01-2003 17:41:

wtf is up with all the pointless replies ?

seriously guys look at the non sense you are saying .....

very dissapointing

but I guess it's ok

Posted by Ste on Apr-01-2003 18:14:

The costs are: ----- 1 side - $ 54.00 ----- 2 sides - $ 74.00

LMFAO

Posted by Vortex_SA on Apr-01-2003 18:38:

the material is copyrighted but im not sure if its illegal to copy sumthing which has never been released to make money off, even tho you cant copy the music by making a similar tune if u get what i mean.

what a fuckn rip off!!!...$54 one side my ass!...i rather by final scratch [ http://www.finalscratch.com/fs2/pictures.asp ] ...you can play off of your laptop onto blank vinyl's as many mp3's as you want...and its only about $500

Posted by Ste on Apr-01-2003 19:58:

in hindsight, if u r an amature artist with 4 tunes of 7 mins or less, you are laughing really.

75 dollars for 4 tunes on one vinyl

which is

50 quid for 4 tunes on one vinyl

which is

12.50 per tune. fuck all really

Posted by DJ Kandaio on Apr-01-2003 20:05:

Okay, how rediculous can the mp3 vs. vinyl situation get?

I mean I love the quality of vinyl, and I spin it when I actually have the vinyl. However, nothing beats having 5000 mp3s available to throw on at a club. Unless someone was going to have their own material put on wax, I really don't see this as a being a progressive service.

All I can see is people going nuts trying to get their latest mp3s cut to vinyl for their next gig. Just bring your laptop, get PCDJ, and the Newmark addon and throw on the track. Either that, or Final Scratch (Mmmmmmmm..)

My main problem with this is the fact that an mp3 is usually ripped from vinyl, but at a considerable loss of quality. Why waste everyone's time by putting that crap on to a vinyl....

Posted by Psy-T on Apr-01-2003 23:01:

in my eyes, this is a good idea.

im getting sick of carrying a cd player with me to parties just to play one or two tracks i made....

so if the quality is good, i would definetly use this service for my tracks (or for tracks that for some reason, are not released)
