Chemical Bros. / Prodigy / Fatboy Slim

anyone else into these incredibly talented artists?
i'm not speaking of only the newer developments but from a while back to when dig your own hole and experience came out.

i personally adore chemical brothers because their sounds are so innovative and complex that evertime you hear it you discover something new.

prodigy is just an overall FEEL GOOD music. it gets to up and dancing in no time.! also put on crazy arse shows

fatboy slim..well he's also excellent but i have a feeling he's moving towards the sell out side..but thats just a VERY generalized and unsupported deduction. which i actually take back. heh but his older stuff is just great. plus his weapon of choice vid. hah its fecking hilarious!

to those who havent heard of em before, i suggest you check out a few of the tunes:

Chemical Bros. - Lost in the K-hole
Chemical Bros. - Where do I begin
Chemical Bros. - Let Forever Be
Chemical Bros. - The Test
Chemical Bros. - Out of Control

Prodigy - Mindfields
Prodigy - Jericho
Prodigy - Firestarter
Prodigy - Breathe
Prodigy - Everybody in the Place

Fatboyslim - Star 69
Fatboyslim - Build it up tear it down
Fatboyslim - Praise You
Fatboyslim - Going out of my head

Crystal Method is also similar in certain respects, they were called the American Chemical Brothers.

I am into the CHemical Brothers, Went to go see them three times Woodstock,New York City,Munich Plus I have a shitload of their records and mix's. Actually, Chemical Brothers is who got me into the whole electronica scene with their CD Exit Planet Dust back in 1995.

The difference is that Chemical Brothers/Fatboy Slim/(not all) of Prodigy is big beat, whether Crystal Method is Chemical beats.

Their live act can't be compared though: Prodigy was mainly a live act, with people who would do nothing but keep the crowd going (remember that, out of 4 people, only 1 of them actually produces).

Out of all these artists, Liam Howlett (Prodigy's mastermind) is my favourite. In all his albums, he works with at least two completely different genres, and he did evolve during all this time.

The Chemical Brothers are also outstanding, and they were really important in the history of Big Beats. Nevertheless, "Hey Boy! Hey Girl" and the second remix of "Life Is Sweet" show their potention in other genres (something more housy).

Fatboy Slim is also a great producer, who came up with some very good ideas. However, he's too attached to one genre (as far as I'm concerned, apart from Star 69, all he produced was big beats).

If you like big beats and trance, listen to Moby's "Feeling so real": quite interesting. Also, there's "Fluke" with "Atom Bomb" and "Absurd" (although their sound is a bit 'colder'), Junkie XL's first album (Saturday Teenage Kick). And, if you like early Prodigy, look for SL2 (cheesy as hell though).

hhmmm.... I guess that's all I had to say about big beat....

It was Chemical Brothers - Sunshine Underground that first got me into beats.

That toon still knocks me on my ass everytime I hear it.

The Surrender album is PHENOMENAL!

Best Fatboy slim track - 'The weekend starts here'
Best Chemical Bros' track - 'Star guitar'
Best Prodigy track - 'Voodoo People'

Chemical Brothers rock!
Fatboy Slim sold his soul to corporate gods (but he did make some nice tunes before that tho...)

Prodigy rocked my world back when Fat of the Land came out, and i was brand new to electronic music.. when i heard 'Smack My Bitch Up' for the first time i knew i was hooked that tune and the rest of the CD all stayed on repeat for the longest time.. the second CD i ever bought, back in freshman year of high school.. ah memreeess... fatboy slim is another matter, i bought the Cd and i thought it was Ok but it didnt sweep me off my feet.. and im afraid i never liked the chemical brothers, the completely AWFUL tune "Block Rockin Beats" COMPLETELY turned me off of any of their music.

Prodigy was one of my earliest influences.. along with Nine Inch Nails, Stabbing Westward, Robert Miles and some eurodance people, especially Dj Quicksilver and Sash.

I dont like chemical brothers or fatboy slim, but prodigy are wikked, probably the main influence that got me into the electronic music scene.

Posted by AntronVee on Apr-04-2003 08:03:

yeah prodigy definitely had an influence on me when it comes to electronica...but i think one love is their best tune shortly followed by voodoo people...

Not into Prodigy so much anymore but CB and Fatboy Slim are really cool.
CB has made some really phat tunes, I get goosebumps whenever I listen
to "Come With Us" or "Hot Acidrhythm", fuck they are so good.

The boring thing with CB is that all their livesets are all alike,
they just play their own stuff, I have 5 gigs of them now and everyone
is more or less alike, just their own stuff.

Fatboy Slim is another chapter of my life, sure he has made some money
on his creativity but I just think he is worth every penny of it.
So many of his tunes can raise the bar of a party just another notch,
like the tunes "Right Here, Right Now" or "Praise You", just pure bliss.
And Fatboy Slim is a pretty good DJ too.

Chemical Brothers are brilliant, Surrender was soooo damn good. The bass drop in 'Under The Influence' (and the energy for that matter) blow my socks off everytime i hear it on a good stereo. Sunshine Undergrounds great as well..so cool when you first listen to it, and when it goes double time...you knew i was in for somethin when i first heard it Favourite Chemical Bros tune would probably Star Guitar. It's just soo damn beautiful, makes me so happy

Never really got into Fatboy, always thought he was pretty over-rated, altho i do like some of the stuff he's made. Prodigy on the other hand..MUSIC FOR THE JILTED GENERATION!!! Easily their best album, that album is soooooo fucking awesome. All good tracks, all with so much energy!!

Not true. Chemicals used to call themselves Dust Brothers before they produced anything and the "real" Dust Brothers were relatively big back then already (they produced most of the Beastie Boys' second album). They just used the name because "they were never going to become famous anyway".

As for what comes to these 3 acts - without them I wouldn't be listening to any forms of electronic music. Nuff said.

I totally agree with that comment, these artists shaped my musical preferences.

Chemical Brothers I saw at Manchester Academy about a year ago that was fucking class, really trippy stage show, all round quality.
Saw Fatboy Slim when I went to Glastonbury In '99, it was a dj set, but I wasn't that impressed.
I got into the Prodigy through Fat of The Land and then worked backwards really, lovin everythin they've done.

All these acts are top notch as far as Im concerned - I think they're all very innovative as well, can't wait for some new material from them all.

I loved Prodigy's early work

Experience
Music for the jilted generation

I was a big fan of prodigy until i discovered other and better things like trance..

I never liked fatboy slim or chemical brothers even tho i own some of their CD's

Posted by Incantation_UK on Apr-04-2003 17:10:

When I first heard Firestarter when i was about 12/13 I immediately got Fat Of The Land as soon as it came out. Ever since I've never looked back and they are probably responsible for my obsession with dance music.

I like the Chemical Brothers and fatboy Slim but don't think either of them are amazing. A lot of the Chems tracks are brilliant but others are a bit dodgy. I think Fatboy Slim's artist albums are good, but not groundbreaking, although his DJ sets are great for parties.

One of the first songs that got me into electronic music was Setting Sun. I heard that song when it came out in 96? and was like . I went out and bought every CD of theirs I could find. I listened to that stuff all the time. I got the chance to see them perform live about a year ago by Chicago. They were completely awesome and played some older tunes that just brought back memories.

I also discovered the Prodigy around the same time and loved them too. I remember hearing Firestarter on the local radio at night on an electronic/industrial show. I saw them in 1998 in Chicago. They played for an hour and it was awesome.
Those guys are my roots.

The dust brothers did the soundtrack for The Fight Club. I watched it last night. Great flick by the way.

But like the one guy said.. Chems dont equal Dust.
