Summer Calling mix confusion

I bought the DOS or Die release of Summer Calling just today and it had labeled as the "Josh Gabriel Mix" the mix that Black Hole and Green Martian seem to have labeled at the "Gabriel & Dresden Mix"

This is not the mix that Tiesto spun throughout 2002. That mix has been variously titled as the "Original Mix," the "Original Josh Gabriel Mix."

So the mix I picked up today is that proggy, somewhat minimalistic one, whereas I'm looking for the other. (Sure, the DOS or Die release has the Airwave remix, but that would just be a bonus to the mix I want.)

So what's the answer? Did DOS or Die screw up the label?

Yeah, I checked Discogs. I forgot to mention that I do know both exist. It's just a matter of which is which.

(And cleverly fitting in a rant about not having gotten the mix I wanted. Grr..)

i've heard samples of the dos or die release and to me it sounds like you have the gabriel & dresden remix instead of the josh gabriel mix which is also known as the original mix.

so in short,

josh gabriel mix = original mix

^^ that was something i wasn't aware of before today.

if you send me a sample, ill compare it against my black-hole cdm which has all the mixes on. and ill let you know which is which

The 1 tiesto used to play loads was the Josh Gabriel mix.

Its feature on Matt Hardwicks CD of Gatecrasher Resident Transmission.

tiesto played both a ton.

The Josh Gabriel mix isn't the original. The true Original mix is a short, summery breakbeat affair and is downright beautiful. Makes Gabriel's mix pale in comparison, not to mention most of the other remixes.

yeah DOS or DIE screwed up. they labelled it as the josh gabriel mix when they actually pressed the gabriel & dresden remix for you. unfortunately for you, i doubt you can hold your shop responsible for that.


starglider, ok can you post a sample of your so called breakbeat original mix? i can definitely post samples from the original blackhole sampler and the josh gabriel mix and it will prove to be the same track. as far as breakbeats are concerned, i have not been exposed to a breakbeat mix of summer calling. lets hear it.

EDIT - nevermind i think i've solved it for myself, which makes things interesting. why the heck did black hole label the josh gabriel mix as original mix?

i have the blackhole promo....none of the sides are labeled "original mix", just A1: Josh Gabriel Mix and B1: Gabriel & Dresden Remix.....

but the vinyl itself's not labeled....it's just the reaction sheet inside, so i don't know which side is what....well i like both very good so it doesn't matter

the josh gabriel mix is the original mix. the breakbeaty version was made after that one and then we did our mix third.

all the other mixes were commissioned by black hole or lightning records.

i didn't even know dos or die was putting out "summer calling"

tiesto was telling us in miami that several dutch radio stations are starting to play "summer calling" - perhaps it might be a hit??

Heh, I don't see why not...it was my favorite vocal tune of 2002, and my favorite tune all-around of 2002 until James Holden- Nothing released (sorry, the tune was just too outstanding for it not to be ).

Couldn't stand the gabriel and dresden mix. Much prefer the straight gabriel mix and even the airwave progressive mix.

black hole have just released the cdm dave at last for us CD DJ's!!
its got thse mixes on:

1) Radio Edit (Josh Gabriel Mix)
2) Josh Gabriel Mix
3) Gabriel & Dresden Mix
4) Airwave Club Mix
5) DJ Tomcraft Remix
6) DJ Dazzle's Royal Air Force Mix
7) Video

so that should boost some sales!!

i bought 5 copies of this choon for me and my mates! very good indeed!
