Is the term "shock and awe" the same as "blitzkreig"? I've been seeing some similarities between what the US is currently doing & saying and what Germany did in WWII.

Any thoughts?

Blitzkrieg - A revolutionary form of combined arms warfare whereby mechanized, mobile ground units are used in combination with close air support and motorized artillery to quickly overwhelm defenders.

Shock and Awe - Stupid media hype to ages old war concept to intimidate Iraqis.

If your going to compare WW2 to this war I would suggest you be more specific and provide explicit examples.

Can't really compare the two since "Shock & Awe" never really took place due to the attempt to take out Saddam initially as a last minute decision before "Shock & Awe" was to happen.

I don't really see a problem here. Blitzkeirg is a common military practice nowadays. And yes even the US army uses it.

Does the Seychellian army use it?

how can you blitzkeirg without tanks and planes

Many modern military tactics come from the German attack (Blitzkrieg) style of WW2. Their tactics were the most advanced tactics of the time and still are relevent today. It's interesting to watch US military style and how they have evolved the Blitzkrieg style and Vietnam era anti-guerrella(sp?) style in the last few decades. It seems to be pretty darn effective.

yeah those anti-guerilla war tactics in vietnam were very effective

You missed my point. I was saying how we learned from these tactics, not that we were effective at them back in the day. ahlamalek, you don't always have to be out to get me you know.

Posted by malek on Apr-08-2003 20:07:

in what form did the US evolve its guerilla tactics now? when they used orange agent, carpet bombing, decimating villages, raping, etc back in vietnam.

ahlamalek, you know what,

Fuck you.

I wouldn't go so much as to label it "truth". More like he frustrated fuzzygreen so much that he couldn't take it anymore.

I'm so fustrated at your ignorance.

ahlamalek what is your background please? How old are you? Where did you grow up? What is your education? What type of friends do you have?

You seem like a 18 year old, culturally isolated person, with little experiences in living.

They used to use Agent orange as a pesticide on foods here. I'm sure your parents ate some....

Vietnam war lasted many years...this one weeks.
