Ok here's my question: Why does everybody love Dj Tiesto so much? What puts him at level with the likes of PvD and Oakie, and Picotto..? Why don't i ever see a song that sez: "song title" by Dj Tiesto? Does he not produce songs?

When Tiesto is behind the wheels of steel he's just one big piece of energy with the whole set a big smile on his face. He is enjoying the party more then the people on the dancefloor. That's his big power, he isn't there for the money (do i hear dj jean or jurgen?) but only because he love's the partying. And also the music he playes take's you to another level, you don't need drugs for that during his set

and about the producing: check the aliases topic! (he produced lots of records, but under another name)

OK, am I the only person on this message board that DOESNT like Tiesto??? I mean he is decent.... but his set at innercity (the mp3, I'm on the wrong continent to see any big name DJs live ) nearly put me to sleep.... I like some kamaya painters stuff but its not incredible... and most of the DJ tiesto remixes of songs I have don't really improve much on the original (BT - dreaming, delerium - silence, the airscape mix is soooo much better for that song). Does anyone at all agree with me?

Hehe, Morbius I totally agree with you ... wanted to post this a while ago, but I didn't want to be the one who always stirs shit up =) ... lol.
But yeah, Tiesto might be a good DJ, and a good producer, but that's about it. He is decent, but doesn't do anything interesting and innovative, it is alwayt the same trancey trace formula. All his sets sound the same, all his music sounds the same - just like every other big-name trance DJ out there. But I don't blame him, if people want to hear the same thing over and over again, that's what is being played, I'm sure he doesn't like it that way either, but unfortunately too much money and prestige is in the game to give the DJs free choice of the muk they play.

again, hope I'm making sense ...

peace

Morbius and skywarp. You're not alone. While appreciating that Tiesto is an able producer his music doesn't get me off the way something like Picotto does. Tiesto is ok for the odd "quiet" moment, but I see no reason for picking him in favor of Taucher, Lange or any other of the other "dream/epic/euro/melodic"-trance producers out there.

Cool

some other names tiesto is involved with...
GOURYELLA
VIMANA

so he IS producing tracks...
I totally agree though with Morbius/Skywarp/Trancaholic! Tiesto is a nice dj but he's becoming a bit boring I think! That's the matter with all deejays who become TOO popular I think... check Oakenfold

LATER!

Thanks for your support everyone
And I have to beg to differ with regards to Oakenfeld too... any of his new stuff is shit. Most of it is just a bunch of anthems tagged together (OK, I know Perfecto Presents Another World isn't but IMHO it sucks too) One mix he made that is so good I nearly shit my pants is called the Goa Mix, and its from '94. I've probably mentioned this 10 times already, but go download it people!!!
Oaky stole a few songs from this mix to use in PPAW, but he didnt do nearly as good of a job overall. Here's a link where you can see what tracks are on this amazing mix: http://www.tracklistings.org/broadbybid.php3?bid=55
Be sure to check lower down on the page for an accurate tracklisting. Oh yah, check out the Mad Wax Seventh Day mix too.... a link is *somwhere* on that big page :P

And just like mainstream music.... popular != good... just like the most popular music is (generally) shit, some of the most popular DJs are getting pretty crappy.
