Well, I always like to drink b/c it loosens up the inhibitions, lets me move a little crazier and be more outgoing, which is good in a club environment. And usually I work before hand, so a few Red Bull Vodka/Jaegers will wake me up, as well as getting me more into it. Not to mention it enhances the experience, and pills just do that ten-fold for me. A great track normally, at that volume and combined with a pill, is just fucking unbelievable, and considering how many DJs do or have done substances, I really don't think they'd care, as long as people are enjoying themselves and the music.
I absolutely enjoy the music sober, but substances can take it to a whole different level.

I often hear people with substance abuse problems tell me that they can enjoy life sober. That they can go to a restaurant without drinking they just choose not to. A smoker saying he can quit whenever he wants. It becomes like hearing a broken record which becomes less convincing over time.
A lot of DJs do drugs because they have hectic schedules. Not that it's an excuse but they need something to keep them up to do a 9 hour set then fly to another country and do it again. I still think that a DJ, while they may do the drugs themselves, wouldn't sleep as well at night knowing that the only people who come to see him spin and enjoy the music he produces and plays are e-tards and alcoholics.
A spoon amuzes someone who is whacked out of their mind, I'm sure DJs everywhere are jumping for joy that they can compete with that.
