ummm to me... progressive trance is the sorta stuff that oakenfold plays right now.. kinda not too deep, and not too uplifting.. right in da middle?
yea.. thats it..
it doesn't have as many 'floaty' elements as uplifting trance does i guess

Thumbs up

Prog rules... Tiesto is kind of borderline though, his older stuff was much more uplifting, but the newer stuff (e.g. his remix of innocente) is headin much more progressive. This is probably because thats the way things over here in the UK (where he has his residency) are going.

I would define progressive as something with a different, new vibe to it. It goes much deeper into your mind i think, it doesnt really have the big synth riffs that have become so much of a trademark of trance over the past few years. Progressive i would say is a much more subtle form of trance, it usually has a lot more variation in the beat more than the synths n stuff, the one person i would say who defines progressive trance in the music he makes is James Holden (yes i know i go on about this dood soooooooo much, but no-one except infinity seems to recognise him), his beats and melodies are just so fresh and new sounding, the basslines are much more driving, and the production involved is just on a completely different level to anyone else i know, bar tiesto Prog generally has that driving feeling to it (i dont know if u know what i mean, but thats the best word i can think of to describe it) and it can span from deep deep nick warren stuff up to kinda uplifting, but still prog (to know what i mean here, get Ambassador - One Of These Days), so its a variable genre, but u always know a progressive tune when u hear it!

We've had so many threads in here trying to define progressive trance, and it really is hard to describe, so im gonna post a sample of what i think is the defining tune of prog. It is of course a James Holden Remix... Mad Dogz - Better Make Room, enjoy

Peace

tiesto is not progressive trance. Progressive trance is boring if you ask me. It stays the same monotone all the way through the tune. Not very exciting. Uplifting trance on the otherhand has meaning to its tunes. It builds you up, then, bang.... your off...

i like all kinds of trance sub genres... and I think tu_face did well in describing progressive, so i dont think i need to go any further. (btw that sample tune owns, i have it on Anthony Pappa's Nubreed!)

to me progressive trance is also some of the best chill out music... tho i could prolly groove to it just as easily I can listen to that stuff for hours while doing homework or whatever without me getting distracted, since it has a very driving effect.

i enjoy other subgenres such as uplifting/epic just as much.. but on a different level (does that make sence?). Whenever i listen to uplifting/epic...i find myself fastforwarding right to the breakdown/buildup parts alot, whereas in progressive i definitely want to listen all the way thru. progressive always gets you goin'...

BULLCRAP!

tiesto and oakenfold are NOT progressive.

Th djs at eth forefront of teh porgressive movemt are most definitely Sasha & Digweed.

GLOBAL UNDERGROUND is also a good example. Their infant label - NuBreed - is a cool example of a funkier darker progressive movemnt.

Incase you've forgotten, preogressive means 'change'. It changes all the time, its an evolving form of music, unafraid to change.

Unlike hose and commercial shite...

typos...

wow. Thats a lot of typos.

I'm sure you got what i was trying to say...

anyway, yeah, tu_face, better make room is a good example. Its featured on Anthony Pappa's nubreed001 CD, track 4 CD 1, remixed by James Holden.

Also... nick warren is a good progressive Dj.... check him out.

Urrr.. Tiesto last night... Prog to fuck mate heheh, u go to gatecrasher and then tell me progressive is boring man, its not all they play, but at least half of it is progressive in there. And also if u think progressive is boring/monotone/whatever you have been listening to some real shit prog, because its more orientatred on the beats than the big fuck-off synths. Its not designed to take you straight off your feet, its designed to build the energy and tension slowly, then release it just as slow. This leads to an immense feeling on the dance floor, and u just cant stop urself from moving.

Peace
