please define "make your own samples"? You mean that I make the sound or that I sample the synths that I use samples from?
(strange wordcombination there :-)

when you say you 'collect' samples that kinda gives me the idea that you don't make them.. what kind of samples are you talking about anyway? (im not trying to be rude, I just don't quite understand)

dj kinetica: Hi there and thanx!
About Reason, it sure looks very heavy when looking at it the first time. But dont be frightened, its very logical and easy. I was stupid not to read the readme-file with the instructions how to use reason, so I learned it all by myself, and I still find new cool features that I use! If you want some pointers, the big one should be, focus on the drums, make drumpatterns that you havent heard before, just play around with different notes on different locations to get some goovy grooves. A great tip is to shuffle all the drums (In the sequencer, at the top right, choose Shuffle, then quantize it all), then you get a very very cool groove, reminding alittle about marco Vs grooves.
How I make my melodies etc, is very hard to explain. Often I throw in a sampler, picks up a sound I like, makes some decent settings with attack, release and filters, some reverb and some delay, and then I can sit for hours just testing things on my synth, that controls reason! (I play on my synth, and out comes the sounds from the sampler in reason. this needs a good soundcard so you can minimize the latency).
Something like that?

Sorry, my bad, I didnt mean collect as in "downloading from everywhere", I mean I sample from synths I get over, my friends, some that I have borrowed from here and there, I also make my own samples with softwares (FM7, sometimes the subtractor, sometimes from my CS2x). I can get really fonky sounds when combining a sound from the CS2x and one from JP-8080,, as tthey sound so different!
