I know I'm ignorant, but Germany and Techno/Trance

Just curious to hear from Germans on the popularity of trance/techno in their country. Do a LOT of people dig it?

im not from germany but i know that Trance/techno or whatever u want to call it, is the music that everyone listens to over there.... i mean, its the home of most popular producers/dj's and the love parade is held there.... GOD knows how many people go to that... looks like millions to me =)

I've always been curios about the same thing, as far as the wide spread popularity of dance music abroad particularly in euro-land. Being from the states, and more specificly KANSAS I really don't get to hear alot of the stuff I like, for that matter any of it. Any sort of dance music that makes it big in Kansas has been on the airwaves for liteerally months everywhere else, it's sad I live in a ass backwards community ah well, but yeah I would like to know also how dance music is treated else where in the world

u shoulda read the thread on how trance originalted, at first techno was formed in germany and then it was taken to holland where it was made into trance.....Germany u will hear more of the harder stuff i believe cuz i think there into the techno more than the trance i guess. Just look at PVD vs Tiesto we all know pvd plays more powerful stuff

I heard a different version.

I heard that house music was originated somewhere in the United States, maybe Chicago or New York, and later on, Oakenfold brought a baleric sound to Ibiza and England. I dunno, does anyone have some reliable internet source of it?

well supposedly it was Detroit. I argue that what came out of Detroit didn't influence modern trance at all, but rather that it was a European invention

Trance is not pop.

How can you say that in Germany they think trance is pop and techno is the shit. Thats complete bullshit. Trance is huge over there because it is awesome, not just because its on the radio and a majority of the people listen to it there.

dude, pop="popular music"...in Germany trance is popular so in essence it is in fact pop. This trance though thats really popular in Germany is the Ian van Dahl, DJ Sammy stuff. A lot of teenagers will like the same music as teens in the US but they'll like the commercial trance as well. Pretty much, commercial stuff (rnb, rap, american pop) and commercial trance dominate the mainstream.

There's more people into trance and trance is played on the radio a lot (i.e. pvd's soundgarden). There's more raves and larger parties than we have in the US. Popular trance is played in stores a lot and almost everyone can tolerate and from time to time enjoy dance music...even the adults (most adults in the US hear trance and think wtf?). Anyway, if ur wondering how relevent this info is, I spent 3 weeks in Germany in February.

I was thinking trance started with goa that originated at Goa Beach, India, and then mixed in with UK House, and the hard edge of German techno, and then trance eventually evolved into what it is today. Of course with different countries adding different elements.

It depends on the type of trance... goa trance has very different origins than the european variety. I think the european variety is more house influenced/ whilst goatrance might be a little more EBM influenced. SFX (old Astral Projection moniker) has some interesting tracks from 89-93. Makes me wonder who else plays that old style, as I rather like it.
