Yeah, I've noticed this development as well. Mainstream radio is full of huge breakdowns with one-finger stadium riffs, bursts of white noise, kickdrums and gimmicky noises now. Even pop-rappers who'd be up in arms about all that "techno" shit are doing it now. Ironically, this transfers all the formulaic problems that dance music has suffered from for years into the charts. They now sound even more generic and samey than ever before, which I didn't think was possible.
Personally, I can't listen to it for very long purely from a sound quality-related standpoint. It's all just so over-compressed and heavy on midrange noises that it wears my ears out.
