Arrow Very Useful Music Guide

Link

gives a detailed (although semi-biased) synopsis of each of the different styles of electronic music and provides a sample to each of them. Not all types of electronic music that I could think of was put on there, but nevertheless a great guide..

if it has been posted already, sorry

He had a more complete version on his site, but he shut it down

I'm doing something similar (look my sig) and he's been helping me a lot...

Anyway, the purpose of his guide is not to be accurate, but humorous, so that's why it's "semi-biased"

This guide is IMO very biased.

Is the author yet another north american dance music fan who has probably never been to a club in his life yet thinks he knows everything about the scene?

It occurs to me that he may have bought a synthesizer just to have on display, though nobody ever come visits him anyway, has Kraftwerk posters all over his wall, and secretly dreams of living in europe. maybe.

No, I've talked to Ishkur for a while about music and I believe I know what his goal was when he created that website (if I'm wrong, and you read it, Ishkur, correct me ).

He's not an American techno purist whatsoever, he likes acid techno after all. He's just worried about the evolution and commercialization of music nowadays, of formulas and clichés that keep the music "stuck", if you know what I mean. Epic trance is usually considered an "evil genre" to electronic music due to its "cheesiness" and being based on melody rather than on the structure (except for the melody part, I don't agree with the rest). The same goes for jump-up. Anyway, don't take that guide so seriously - have you ever seen there's a disclaimer?

it seems to me that he calls music that is incredibly commercial (IE charts in the top 10) good, but claims that music from a genre that charts top 40 about once a year is very commercial.

joeh, he knows TA and he's just taking a piss, don't take it so seriously (apart from the fact that he's not really fond of most epic trance )

Heh ish is a crack up, but he really dislikes progressive music, he hates epic even more so you cant take his trance reviews to heart.
