an MP3 is a file used by computers to play audio tracks
kinda like a CD on a CD player

Mp3 is so popular cos its just about CD quality in audio
its a relatively small file size too
at 128Kbits per second 1mb of file size is equal to 1 minute of playing time
there are many programs u can put onto your computer to convert CD audio to the MP3 format
there by making it easy to " share " those mp3 files with ppl all over the world via the internet
Also MP3 files take up less space on a CD
u can store roughly 8 full audio CDs onto 1 CDRom useing MP3
