Is/are "Leama & Moor" trance?

I contacted Martin Smith (Leama of Leama & Moor) through his myspace page and got a real nice response from him. He seems like a real cool guy.

Anyway, he said that he dosen't consider ANY production or remix that he's been involved with to be "trance". Do you guys agree with this? Or is he being really picky? I've certainly always considered the Leama & Moor remixes to be trance. I mean don't subgenres like hard, euphoric, progressive, melodic, etc. all fall under the umbrella of "trance"? Just wondering what people's opinions are.

Thing is, there are a lot of producers out there that don't choose to pigeonhole their music. Leama & Moore definitely have some "trancey" music, and you could consider their music "deep" or "progressive" trance, but it's the listeners and music journalists who choose to label various artists as such, it's not always the producer. A lot of them just want to make good music, music they enjoy and their fans will.

I think most of Leama & Moor is more trance than trance.

I think it truly IS trance, but comparing it with whats considered trance nowadays, it wouldnt be trance.

well, thats just my opinion.

sounds like straight amazing melodic -progressive trance- to me.

This duo is one my favorite producers. So many incredible tracks from these two.

Sounds like they just want to sound 'different' and not be associated with the 'trance' label, as that has passed its 'best before' date.

I guess I usually tend to call everything trance- even stuff on the proggy or housier side of things. But def. L & M seem like progressive trance. Makes a lot of sense though that producers don't really want to classify their music in any particular way, so as not to dictate them to any one audience.

Sometimes I wonder though if people just don't like the trance label because they don't feel its "cool".

To today's standards, I'd say he is right. His beautiful remixes and original productions throughout the years should not be categorized with what is considered trance today.
