Hi Tranceaddict brethren. I just found out about this live in series. Before I buy a good one can u please tell me which ones are worth buying. I dont know a lot about what digweed is playing now adays. I got like 2 live sets of his from like 2014 and 2015 and he plays tech house in most of them. Is he palyinng tech house most of the time in these live in compilations?. I just checked discogs and there is 8 of the live in series compilations. Please recommend the best ones u know. Thanks

Well, it really depends on your taste. I heard some of them, and they are all like 2~3 cds, with 1 cd being nice, and the other being ok'ish but with few really great tracks. For instance, there's a cd with 'acid eiffel'... lulz

whatever, if you really like this type of tech house (guy j'ish) then you are good to go, otherwise, you will listen to these mix like 2 times at most. Personally I love the one that he play "rhythm acupuncture", cant remember what's the name though.

First of all, most of them are on Spotify, including the continuous mixed versions.

I've listened to a couple of them, and frankly they're pretty boring. There will be one track out of five that is great, but generally the flow is very meandering and directionless. I saw Digweed a few months ago and he's exactly the same live: up and down, no momentum. Long gone are the days when his sets were driving and immaculately programmed.

Came here to basically post this. They're pretty massive compilations, which translates to about 50 boring tracks, and 5 tracks that are worth a second listen before concluding that those, too, are boring.

Well, that's entirely true (from his Montreal edition):

And from his Toronto mix:

While I disagree with the "no momentum" as he's still an ace behind the decks(and is a programming master).

But I do miss the days of his harder driving prog sets. When he used to go hard, it would be Carl Cox levels of driving bass lines What happened Diggers

He clearly chooses to programme the way he does. It's not like he's one of those DJs without any real control over energy. However, I personally do not enjoy a set that keeps losing all the energy every 30-40 minutes and starting again, deliberate or otherwise.

It's remarkable how hit or miss he has become amongst his long time fanbase. I remember being at the night he recorded the live in Toronto and literally half my friends had their jaw dropped in astonishment and the other half couldn't wait to leave.

My belief has been that over the past 10 years, he's been at the peak of his game ONLY when he is in big, dark rooms. We were spoiled in Toronto for a number of years having him play at the Guvernment which is exactly that. His Ibiza stuff, his radio shows and even a lot of the Live In series have been disappointing. However, if you're lucky that is, you can still catch him on a good night in a huge dark room blasting out the bangers, even if just for 10% of his set (I don't disagree that unforunately this doesn't happen often enough).

The last two times I saw Digweed were actually the two best times I've ever seen him - totally mind-blowing "you definitely had to be there" kind of nights. 2013 in Montreal at Stereo for their Halloween party. He played for 11 hours, I lasted about 8. We were all shocked he didn't release a recording, but it turned out he DID plan to, except the recording itself got fucked/didn't actually record or something - he released Live In Argentina instead. And 2015 in Miami at Treehouse...another night of fucking amazing mind melting ridiculous grooves. He released a live in for that one and it certainly does not at all capture the vibe and flow of the night.

Digweed even posted this to his page after the Montreal night.

Interesting. Why not?

I suppose it's a personal thing, I find most recordings of live sets never do justice to a night. And that mix specifically is just a portion of the whole night, capturing only the peak stuff. For me some of the best shit he played was his opening hour and of course the very end. Cutting those bits out, naturally you don't get a proper feel for the build of the night. People were literally banging off the walls and ceiling that night.
