Various - Tribute To Ramin [Ruin]
| quote: | | This Styrax offshoot commemorates the 1st anniversary of the untimely death of influential journalist Ramin Raissi by plunging into the nether regions of deep and dubbed techno from Redshape, Morphosis, Rising Sun, Intrusion, Quantec and Bvdub. Ramin was a Lebanese native based in Berlin writing for the massively respected Groove magazine, which situated him close to the artists who have been selected to represent his memory. Redshape provides the two shining highlights of the set with the spectral synth shapes of 'Requiem Solo', featuring the masked one beautifully vibing on some vintage analogue keys, while 'Nightshade' is another Redshape special, adding a raw-as-f*ck 909 rhythm to slowly shifting chords with seriously darkside results. Morphine records' Morphosis aka Ra.H deals an affecting cut on 'Touch The Stars', with a somnambulistic synthline trip guided by lush drones and a trickling melody with unsettling harmonics. Workshop's Rising Sun extends the trip with a deeply positive piano led deep houser, before Steve Hitchell's Intrusion project and Quantec provide reflective solace on a couplet of crackle chttp://www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/341814-01.htmoated dub housers. The final track from Brock Van Wey's Bvdub project is quite possibly the best thing we've heard from this producer yet, revolving around a stone cold kick drum pattern, Bvdub crafts layers of shoegazing ambience reminiscent of the best from the Cocteau Twins to Gas, sealing the set on an rich emotional high. Extremely limited copies - you've been warned!!! |
Above taken off the boomkat web site.
Some surprisingly good stuff on this release for one of these various artist things. Particularly excited about the rising sun track.
