Sad 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death

On December 8th 1980 John Lennon was shot dead in New York.

I wasnt even born yet and this angers me. I love the music the Beatles made when they were together, as well as Lennon's work during his solo carrer. I don't understand why some nut saw it fit to shoot one of the most talented and influential musicians of the time. He preached the message of peace all through his life, and was brought to a cold blooded end and the hands of a hand gun on the streets of Manhattan.

Let's all take a minute to remember the work he did while he was still alive.

i dont think you can even compare the music lennon made during his solo career to the music he made with the beatles ... imagine, jealous guy, woman, working class hero have brilliant lyrics contrary to most beatles music that was more about the sound ... 25 years on and the legacy of one of musics greatest icons continues to live strong as ever

He and all the beatles were geniuses. The first ever tape i owned for my ghetto (And it was ghetto) blaster was their greatest hits, way back in gr3.

John Lennon was a huge pioneer in the music industry and it is sad that he was shot down in his prime. Who knows what he could have accomplished musically if he hadn't been killed.

Before he died my dad was actually lucky enough to have met him and the other members of the Beatles at a Pub he used to work at before they even broke into the American culture. I can't even imagine today what I would say to him if I had the opportunity to meet him.

I am a huge Lennon and Beatles fan and I don't think the music industry would be the same without his influence.

quote:
"You make your own dream. That's the Beatles' story, isn't it? That's Yoko's story. That's what I'm saying now. Produce your own dream. If you want to save Peru, go save Peru. It's quite possible to do anything, but not to put it on the leaders and the parking meters. Don't expect Jimmy Carter or Ronald Reagan or John Lennon or Yoko Ono or Bob Dylan or Jesus Christ to come and do it for you. You have to do it yourself. That's what the great masters and mistresses have been saying ever since time began. They can point the way, leave signposts and little instructions in various books that are now called holy and worshiped for the cover of the book and not for what it says, but the instructions are all there for all to see, have always been and always will be. There's nothing new under the sun. All the roads lead to Rome. And people cannot provide it for you. I can't wake you up. You can wake you up. I can't cure you. You can cure you." - John Lennon

wasn't there another post about this??

either way... JL was awesome. To see someone who stayed firm in their moral/ethical/spiritual beliefs despite all the turmoil of that time.

Was also glad to have checked out Strawberry Fields in Central Park.. just a stone throw away from his old residency in Manhattan.

i actually remember the day he was shot because my parents were upset (not emotionally distraught or anything) but i remember them talking about it and a big deal being made on the news. It was just after that his last hit song "Nobody told me" was number 1 for weeks on the radio.

Its still my favourite lennon song.
