That logic is patently incorrect. People are used to their cars because the public transit system is garbage, NOT the other way around.
I know how to use transit. I used to take the TTC to and from work every day - it was an hour-and-a-half trip minimum, both ways, so that wasted 3 hours of my day if not more. And it cost $4.50 per trip - that's $45 a week, MUCH more than I pay in gas!
No sane person would willingly take the TTC under such circumstances unless they couldn't afford a car. But I'd happily leave my car at home and take public transit if I could take the Yonge line up to Vaughan and take, say, a Highway 7 or Langstaff line to Weston.
