What do you guys think of this new product?

Amazon is one of many who have already tried this electronic book idea. The difference is, that you're actually able to easily download books/newspapers onto this. The problem with other devices like PDAs is that it was too annoying to download books and newspapers onto it, and there wasn't much support from publishers. However, if Amazon can get support from publishers with this thing (which I have faith that they can), this could be something big.

HOWEVER, I would have to read reviews from many avid readers before buying this product. As you notice in Amazon's promotion, they heavily emphasize the fact that they have tried to develop a product that doesn't get in the way of you and your reading. Probably the most major complaint that consumers have had about e-books is that it's just not the same as reading a physical book. Books have had a place in society for a very long time, so it would be quite the feat indeed to create a product that made things so much easier, that the "experience" of reading an actual book was no longer an issue.

I still prefer the old fashioned paper-book format

I absolutely despise reading off a computer/digital screen, for some reason I can't concentrate on the text as much as I can while holding the actual book in my hands

and I also get silly excited about picking up the latest book by any of my fave authors at Chapters or ordering it on Amazon

I want to see the unit. A couple years back, a new technology was developed to allow electronic printing on 'paper'. Looked, and read like paper, but refreshed like a computer.

I don't think this tech is good enough to be mass produced yet, but lets see where this leads us.

As someone who reads probably 3000 pages per month, I won't be switching to electronic any time soon. I simply enjoy the feel and look of the pages.

Oooh I would definitely embrace this!

Although I adore books, they get dusty and I have thousands of them (I left my whole collection in England yet I still have 2 bookshelves full) and aside from nicely bound classics, the girly trash would be fabulous on a handheld pda (as long as it was sturdy enough to be rolled onto when I have fallen asleep reading....)
