Have you ever been stopped by a ride program?

I was stopped by my first ride program tonight. I know it sounds silly but I was kind of excited. I always hear about them, but never seen or encountered them. I passed the test!

Just curious to see how many people have been stopped by a ride program.

I've been stopped several times....each time was them asking if I've been drinking and me saying no and them letting me go...there was no real test

If you failed the test, I'm sure you wouldnt be posting this right now!

Whether or not I am sober or had 1 or 2 drinks, I'd prefer not be stopped.

I have been stopped several times before. Most recently on Canada Day. I had one drink over an hour before being stopped, then tested around 11pm. I said no to drinking and he let me go obviously.

I did get stopped 4 years ago and I told the officer I had 1 drink over 3 hrs ago, knowing full well it was 3 drinks 3 hrs ago. I blew and was fine. He was nice while doing it so whatever.

I am always prepared when driving home, i keep a bottle of water in my car to drink on the ride home, and make sure ive been out over an hour before getting behind the wheel.

laws are stricter now than 4-5 years ago, so i always prepare myself for the ride home. I also plan my way home carefully each time i go out, which isnt often to the route where ride is least likely to occur.

That's smart to prepare yourself. I tend to just not drive if I plan on having any alcohol.

You need to be even more careful now as the blood alcohol concentration was reduced in the summer. So rather than 1 beer an hour, it's roughly half a beer an hour (obviously things like body weight, food etc. play a factor). They can take your license away right then and there from anywhere between 3-30 days.

I've been stopped twice.

First time was downtown, it was almost a joke, I think it must have been 9 PM, I guess they must have figured people were doing heavy pre-drinking that night. Anyway, I obviously hadn't had anything, said as much, and they let me go.

Second time was in North York and I had had a few earlier, several hours before. I said I'd had one or two, had to do a breath test and blew almost zero.

Generally by the time I go home there's hardly anybody else on the road, and the RIDEs have already packed up and left. I tend to be more worried about fatigue than alcohol.

And as for the "reduction" in the summer, the law was never actually changed, they just arbitrarily decided to start issuing suspensions for BACs well below the legal limit. It's blatantly unconstitutional and only a matter of time before somebody challenges it in court (and wins).

They shove their nose through the window. So just say you haven't had any and inhale while doing so.

I was going to bring up that point!

I've stopped about 20 or so times over the last 7 years (commuted a lot of weekends from Aurora to downtown and back). I had to blow two of the times, passed both even though I had a little in me.

SO like Dr Z said, first thing they do is see how you use your brakes slowing down to a stop. Don't make an unusual or nervous stop. Next they stick their head in your window to catch your breath if they smell anything, and small talk if you had drinks, and what time you had them.

Your first time your heart beats 200bpm and your leg trembles on the peddle, but after a few times it's routine, and they start waving you through more often.

There was this one time I feel really bad about, coming from a part in K the the Wizo (what we kalled it back then), CRUNK. I pulled off the 401 in the sauga on the way back for a gas, pee and Cheetos stop. Just when I was getting on the ramp back on the 401 he was midway between the highway. I rolled down the 2 front windows for good ventilation, and chomped on my delishious cheetos, orange fingers and all, he did the head and chat thing, and I miraculously managed to talk my way out of it. Glad he didn't see the red in my eyes. I got off that night, luckily, but I never did such a stupid thing ever again.
