RIP - Adam 'Starkid' Spears
Just happened to read this on progressive-sounds.com. Very sad news indeed.
A tribute to Adam 'Starkid' Spears:
August 9th 1985 - July 30th 2004
On Friday 30th 2004, the life of Adam Spears was tragically ended in an automobile accident when he was en route from his home town of Nacogdoches in Texas to the city of Houston. Known to many in the music industry as Starkid, he was not only a talented musician, known most for his single 'Crayons' on Release Records, but so much more.
For someone so young, Adam touched many people in many different ways in his short life, from his loving and caring family, to his friends both at home and across the world, to all of whom we pass our most heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies, and indeed many of us here in the music scene, be we fans, artists, or DJs. Through his music, he showed a diverse and creative energy that was very inspiring, and in many ways the work he did for labels such as 3Beat Breaks and Looq Records was just laying the foundation of greater things to come.
In a scene where things sometimes get taken all too seriously, Adam's personality and humour was a glistening ray of sunlight on even the most stressful of days. I cannot even begin to count the endless times I would be distracted by his witty comments or passionate comments about not only music, but many other things that would instill enthusiasm into not only his own life but mine also.
This enthusiasm that Adam showed each and every day should be someone we all try to encapsulate, to remember and ensure the star that guided this extremely talented and wonderful young man lives on, just like his music will, with the re-release of his single 'Crayons' now a tribute to his memory. This will be followed by a single on Release Records where all the profits will be given to an organization stipulated by the Spears family, with many artists and friends who were close to Adam all getting involved in memorial projects more info on which will follow soon.
If God judges time spent on Earth according to our works, then the Starkid's place will be high in the skies, burning endlessly.
Death is scandalous no matter who it visits. For someone so young, and full of talent to pass away is truly a huge loss. May he rest in peace.
