Question Torrent Troubles

I'm trying to forward ports using a DSL modem and a netgear router for a torrent client. I've assigned a static IP and configured the router to forward the correct ports. Still doesn't seem to be working properly.

I'm using www.canyouseeme.org to test if the ports have been forwarded properly (as well as what utorrent says).

I've also gone through all the steps at www.portforward.com

Is there anything i need to know about forwarding ports with DSL?
or
Ideas as to why this isnt working for me?

Any feedback from the techies would be appreciated.

I got fed up trying to configure mine long time ago. If I have to download torrents, I disconnect my router and drop my soft firewalls down to minimum safety so I can connect at good speeds. Yeah, I bend my pc over to the world for a few hours, but get the speed.

Ya, it really is an annoying process dealing with the router firmware. I have a linksys router that isn't even capable of forwarding half of the usable ports. ghey

sorry got confused with dlink router, set up so many of these stupid things..... the instructions on portforward are correct.
add custom service works, although takes some tinkering to get it to show up on the list.

I had a DSL modem with an old NetGear wireless router and couldn't properly configure it either. I could d/l no problem, but people couldn't upload from me very well.

Honestly, and I'm no tech nerd, I think it's the old NetGear router that's causing the problem. I just picked up a new wireless router and will try to configure it tonight and post the results.

(I too followed all directions on portforward.com to no avail with the NetGear p.o.s.)

All I really do is put my IP static and on the router place it in the DMZ, normally I get away with it and can connect, this is my internal IP though not my ISP external. Then I have enterprise firewall level on the cisco so that pretty much takes care of security.
