Ossington is one of those cool up and coming streets in the city. Toronto once again prefers to just complain about shit(crime, drugs, prostitution) and as soon as something starts to be done about it (gentrification) it quickly turns to the "not in my back yard" argument. If you don't want noise and some energy in your neighbourhood get the fuck out of the city.
Before anyone thinks that I am simply saying that and if it was in my neighbourhood and I would be singing a different tune. I just bought a place on the intersection of drug dealers, homeless shelters and gentrification. Here's hoping gentrification wins out for investment purposes but if not it will always be exciting when friends visit.

There needs to be a balance between day time / night time and the residents. Having nothing but bars / clubs along the strip leads to it being pretty barren during the day - and also making it difficult to sustain a day-time/retail business on that strip.
If your store is the only store to go to on that block - how busy is it really going to be?
Once the daytime businesses close up shop - if there is zero night life in the area, and depending on where it is in the city - things can start to get sketchy.
I haven't been down to that strip at night in a long time to know what it's like these days - but an explosion of bars / clubs in condensed areas seems to have caused problems with residents (Queen, Little Italy), and possibly a 1yr hold on new places might be in order while things cool down and they get a better sense of the impact it will have on the community.
