Rave deaths

I read an article in the Globe and Mail this morning about two deaths at from apparent drug overdoses after a rave in Vancouver. What I found interesting was that at the end of the article, the writer says that "Drugs are a fixture of the rave scene, which features loud music" and so one.

What does everyone think about this stereotype?

Damn. my friend was at that rave in vancouver, spooky 6.

I better email him and see if he is OK..

and I am sick of stereotypes too.
raves are about music, not drugs.

and besides, the people who die from taking "ecstacy" are the ones who get a pill from someone they don't know, and it's laced with rat poison or something.

nobody ever died from pure MDMA.

it sucks cause anyone can die anywhere at anytime, but stigmas get attached. if you are responsible and safe, you will almost always be okay. its miseducated people that are usually the ones that die. mixing multiple drugs without regard for what they do, buying E from random people and not getting it tested - and one of the worst i have heard - someone died in my hometown 'from ecstasy' even tho the actual cause of death was drinking 3 gallons of water in 45 mins. thats gruesome, but its just another person that thinks water is a CURE for, E which is horseshit. the best defense is thinking ahead and learning about ANYTHING whether its drugs, the rave scene, or electronic music...late/

I'm just tired of seeing every other talk show wannabe, reporter, and news program attaching drug use to raves. Especially when it's pure propaganda. Aren't you guys tired of seeing home video footage of candy kids mashed into the floor? Or some cracked out ravekid swinging glowsticks from a string? I don't know if there is much we can do about this.. just ride it out..

I'm with biznology that chick here in CO that died from drinking too much water gave everything about a Rave a bad name. The media blew that up so big here that we ended up driving to Wyoming to go to a Rave. Even then there was an undercover reporter that video taped the rave and then did a storey and made comments on a local news station. There is such a narrow view of the rave scene and what goes on there. I'm all for the fun but like you have all said be smart it is easier than you think. I live by my signature Dave...

ahhh... another reporter without all the inormation spouting his mouth (or pen) and not properly research this shit
they always have to do a story on the one person who doesn't know how to handle themselfs or know thier limits
once again i quote myself
quote:

oh man... don't get me started on the media and E...
i could write a whole essay about that topic
i've taken quite my share of pills, and so far all of them have been good experiences
it's those who mix drugs, don't know their limits, or those who don't know what they're doing and don't know how to take care of themselves that give XTC a bad name...
it's just sad...
some words of wisdom from me...
there's a thin line between use and abuse, know your limits
do drugs, don't let them do you
stay educated

yes, this is definitely sad.. but anyone who parties in vancouver i am betting would say the same thing, that this really isnt surprising. if you want proof, just go to a massive there yourself (and im only talking about the massives)... and youll see what i mean.

so yes.. this is always sad to hear, but im really, really, really not surprised it happened, especially at a massive in vancouver.
just like it wasn't surprising when a kid got stabbed at stargate earlier this year due to gang shit.

well
sadly enough this stereotype will plague raves and trance music for a while. No matter where i go, people look at me funny when i tell them i listen to trance or music played solely at raves in north america.

Also, there has to be control by all people so this stuff doesnt happen.....didnt anyone ever tell these people.....if u chose to do drugs, keep them in moderation. Drugs are never the safest choice of actionl however if u do drugs, be careful, and have fun

i would be a hypocrit if i put down all drug users, but for good sake, show some intelligence and moderation because our image will be tainted forever

everyone complains of the stereotype but no one thinks about the other side on this issue. Not to take side with reporters, b/c god knows they exaggerate, but how do you think stereotypes are formed in the first place?
the sad fact is, that at EVERY rave, you have your select group of morons that go SIMPLY to do drugs.... to "enjoy" the "scene" as the tv reporters have made it out to be. Think about it: the media has made Raves out to be a drug-fest, of loving, dancing, and getting laid.... this in turn is attracting all the wrong crowds and these are the people who are ruining it for everyone else.
yes i think its fucked up, but no, i don't think we aren't asking for it. Bottom line is that it happens, and its us who ends up paying for it. (and the person who lost their life, obviously).
You and I both know that TRUE trancers and ravers KNOW how any drug they may ingest works, and how to do your best to control the situation. Very rarely will you see a true raver have this sort of problem.... truth is, most ravers nowadays don't even do drugs. You can always spot the newbies - they are usually the ones rolling balls in the corner. Not all the time, but most of the time. Thats the way it is down here.
I don't roll.... its not that i don't want to, its just that i enjoy the event or show better if i don't roll - that way i dont feel like i'm missing out. I really don't like getting "stuck" either. But hey, at least i know the limits, what best environment to be in when i choose to do this....... and this leads to NOT giving ravers a bad name....
I only wish everyone could follow our examples! aye!
