[Geeky] Utility for automatically overlaying sounds on mp3s? i.e. - radio call sign

Maybe one of the COR geeks can help me out on this one.

I'm looking for a utility which will take an mp3 file, and combine it with another, automatically, at intervals.

So, a good example of this in practice would be to have an hour-long DJ set for a radio show, and I want a utility which will go through and "watermark" it with "you are listening to COR Love Sessions with Armin van Dykestodoorn" every 5 minutes.

Requirements:

- Must be command-line
- Must be Unix/Linux flavored
- Must be able to add in intervals (every X minutes)

Does such a utility exist? I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what to search for.

You won't want it to go every 5 minutes, you'll want to pick and chose where it goes, it might work @ the 5 minute mark, but at the 40 minute mark it might be an "important" part of the song. Just use acidpro or something like that to drop it when it fits.

You might want to just do this yourself. Since a program will not always pick a good place to overlay the audio. Also, doing it manually lets you control volume, etc. I don't think you would have to do this too many times. For my radio show we only have 4-5 overlays per 2 hours

i agree with doing it yourself with a sequencing program

call signs only need to be 1 or 2 times per hour (i know by law the station call letters need to be played at least once an hour, i worked in radio for years)

obviously the more the better (long story, i'm going to get into the logistics of radio right now) but for a dj set, 2 per hour should suffice

Thread semi-hijack:

Is there a program that merges different mp3's on top of one another? It need not beatmatch the files or anything, I just want it to mix some background music on top of an audio book.

And I can't be arsed to do that manually to hundreds of files

The "call sign" thing was just an example, and is not what I'll actually be using this for. (I'm looking for a utility, not suggestions on how to handle the given example). That being said, does anyone know of such a utility?

The only way i can think of is to use a DAW of somesort. I know you could do it in ableton. However ableton is not command line so

in the time you have already wasted looking for an answer, you could have already done it with a sequencer.

this to my knowledge does not exist.

Well, I know this sounds dumb (and, because I didn't understand what exactly you want, I'm going to work on the given example ) but it may help you waste no more time:

What if you just added 7 minutes of silence to the sound you want to play? You could loop it endlessly in a different channel and you'd achieve the same result.

Then, you could just do some minor adjustments to do whatever it is that you're trying to do
