Anime Compendium

Angel beats! Set in a high-school between Heaven and Earth. If you can get engrossed in stories that will make you cry, good recommendation. If not, good lesson learned anyway. A Kickin fictitious all-girl band: Girls Dead Monster sings songs that when you learn what theyre saying hit home like a Mack-truck running into a nitro-glycerin plant. This might be a good family oriented anime. PG recommended however.

Air-Gear. Set in a city where a group of high-school students use roller blades called Air-Trek(AT's for short) as weapons in gang-type warfare over turf and emblems. If youre a girl into girly-guy type personalities. This one is for you, if you like roller blading/X-Games stuff, youll like this series. Not family oriented, NC-17 otherwise.

Vampire Bund. Set in a Japanese city where vampires want to live harmoniously with humans in a location called the "Vampire Bund". Many financial economical lessons in this series. Not family oriented, NC-17 otherwise. If youre into the Twilight series, this WILL be a palatable anime-flavor. Good love-story.

Ghost In The Shell: Post-WWIII(Nuclear) Tokyo struggles to regain its status as a formidable city in the world-economy-scape. A cyber-crime fighting force embarks on this quest. Family oriented perhaps. PG-13 for various reasons. If youre into CSI type shows, good for your anime-lovers soul.

Bubble-Gum Crsis Tokyo 2040. An all-girl crime fighting team embarks on a journey to reclaim Tokyo's peace after an earthquake in fighting boomers(rogue robots from the robotic-industrial-age). Family oriented perhaps. PG-13.

Kanon: This series will make you cry not once but probably 4 or 5 times. Its an emotional roller-coaster actually. If you guys liked Angel-Beats youll like this one as it is from Key/Visual Arts. It is family oriented, rating: PG

Clannad: Another one of Key's fabulous anime series. This series spans a total of 2 seasons or 48 episodes. If youre attracted to someone who likes emotional animes and want them to be putty in your arms. This will most definitely be the ticket. Another family oriented anime, rating: PG.

Haruhi Suzumiya no yuuutsu(Melancholoy of): This series involves a club called the SOS brigade that hunts aliens, time-travelers, and espers. Huge laughs from the narration of the main character and it will most definitely make you think. Most likely not family oriented, rating: PG-13

Air: Key's first anime series. They didnt do so hot in this one, but if you can follow the story there are good morals to bring out of it. Family oriented perhaps, rating: PG

Spice and wolf: This series is vastly different in story and style from other animes. The story and plot make you really use your brain when they are talking about market transactions and such. If youre an accounting based profession, youll like this one. Holo the main character is a wolf-goddess that meets this traveling merchant named Craft-Lawrence and they go on an epic journey together. Not family oriented due to depth of story, rating: PG-13(maybe). If you do watch it with your family, youll probably have to explain alot to your younger
members.

Side note on Key/Visual-Arts: They produce adult ESRB rated games in Japan and their animes calm you down, get you all comfortable and then nuke your heart.

What are you trying to do with this thread? Haven't we had quite a few Anime threads, even recently?

Personally, I have trouble getting into Anime TV shows, but are really into some movies. Recently I've seen Perfect Blue, Summer Wars and Voices of a Distant Star. I also revisited the first story from Memories, a favorite Anime flick of mine.

Has any anime been produced yet that isn’t childish nonsense?

I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you've held that sentiment for a while and have probably asked similar questions, so I'm sure you've heard this answer before: Grave of the Fireflies: Here's Ebert's take on it, placing it in his 'Great Movies' section.
Alternatively, I mentioned Memories before. I don't think it's at all childish nonsense.

Then again you like horrible shit like BSG and playing Starcraft, so your opinion on pretty much anything regarding entertainment is suspect.

I suggest that you all watch WELCOME TO NHK. It's about a hikkokimori http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikikomori splice of life story and his relationship with this mysterious girl who is also a hik. It's like fight club meets catcher in the rye but done in an anime way.

i watched some movie last year about a hikkokimori guy. i can't remember what it was. not an anime, though. he lived at home, always ate pizza. a girl delivered him pizza once, i think it was, and maybe they fell in love. an interesting story but apparently not interesting enough for me to remember :/

BSG is a critically acclaimed (if flawed) masterpiece, #1 on most scifi lists you can find. I haven’t played SC in at least 12 months (but that too was also a critically acclaimed masterpiece re competitive gaming).

You on the other hand waste all your time modding someone else’s game because you’re too incompetent to make your own, and fantasising over cartoons made for adolescents because you have no idea what vagina feels like. Likely to end up as a kiddy fiddling, weeboo loser.
