I believe in the good old adage that goes "It's not what you say, but how you say it". It's only failed me once on Facebook (though the guy apologised later on).
For example, just last week a good friend posted some "proof" the foreign media believes Brazil is an underdeveloped backwater and thinks exactly like the middle-class protesters from last year, as if there was a greater-than-Sochi backlash. It was an article by a big French magazine that was supposedly censored in Brazil (hah!) with many bullet points, such as "France opposed the ascension of Brazil to the Security Council in the UN because Labour is the most corrupt government in Brazilian history and the country is currently a joke", though the very opposite happened.
So, instead of calling him out, I pointed out the fact there are no signs of this magazine's existence on Google, and showed how the facts run counter to what he had posted.
So far, no harm done to our friendship (as far as I've seen).
