I wanted NBN
Don't think we actually need video's though to prove how functionally retarded our politicians are, though I guess if we 'did' have an NBN we could stream them quicker.

Same
Now we'll just get a watered down version. Or, more than likely, the tech on wireless will become far better than the NBN could become, thus rendering it useless. Oh well.

Apparently there's actual massive bandwidth limitations with wireless. It's not actually an option at all. It can deliver decent speeds if not many people are using it but it only provides decent speeds because people don't use it very much and use ADSL instead currently. Basically we've got an expensive high maintenance shitty copper network that doesn't work properly and the government is currently opting to use that instead of a more long term solution primarily for political gain (no need to give the opposition any real achievements) but also for short term (4-5 years rather than 10-15) financial gain. No doubt the NBN will get constructed eventually simply because the copper technology simply isn't reliable and is expensive in the long run. It just might take a change of government or 30 years to do so. The current FTTN plan is to replace failed copper with fibre though I believe.
Fixed cables will always be faster than air. You can't control factors like attenuation and interference in the air, whereas you can always design new cables as needed.
Whether or not current fiber cables will outlast developments in wireless is the crux of the debate, but the latest experimental technologies in both mediums put fiber at 250,000 times faster than wireless. When you also factor in the huge cost difference between setting up wireless towers and laying cables, you can see how truly retarded the government is.
Just like every other infrastructure decision in history, everyone is going to realise that taking the cheap route was moronic and tax payers will just end up paying double (or more). Politicians won't give a single fuck though, because their tenure will be up well before any of this becomes a problem. Horizon disparity is the biggest cause of fail in democracies, but everyone just pretends like it doesn't exist and does nothing about it. Put anyone who knows anything about corp governance in charge of things and you'd have every politician shitting their pants.
